Technical (15 mins)

On Arrivial: (Prior to start of practice)

Organization:

As shown in diagram

Dynamic Warm-up:

1. Jog to cone and back twice

2. Open the gate to the cone, close the gate on our way back

3. Half kicks (Cross the body; Knee to elbow) to cone, Light extension - Full kicks on our way back.

4. High knees to cone, butt kicks on our way back.

5. Side shuffle facing one direction to cone - switch direction half way in between. Two alternating side skips on our way back.

6. Small skips down, big skips on our way back.

7. Move on to SAQ with cones.

1. Be on toes

2. Listen for coaches signal

3. Reaction time

4. Speed of movement

Technical Warm-up: Yael Averbuch "Soccer Wall Series"

Part I

1. Inside pass (leave foot in air after contact) Receive + Pass; 1 min x each foot

2. Receive inside (leave foot in air after receiving) Pass back with Laces - same foot, drop foot in between reps; 1 min x each foot

3. Outside touch when receiving (leave foot in air after receiving) Pass with inside surface; 1 min x each foot

4. Receiving drag across with inside surface (leave foot in air after receiving) Pass with outside surface; 1 min x each foot

Challenge - Wrap around the back of your planted foot, inside pass. Adjust the angle of your hips. 1 min

Technical Repetition: Lofted balls

Organization:10 x 30 yard area with 2 x 5 yard area either end, set up as shown

Players work in teams

One ball per team

Instructions:

1. Players must look to drive the ball into their partner’s area

2. Their partner must attempt to control the ball without leaving their area

3. If the ball lands in the box, the player that hit the driven ball gets a point

4. If the receiver can control the ball inside the box with 1 touch, they also receive a point

Coaching Points:

1. Angle of approach

2. Head up to observe target

3. Placement of non-kicking foot

4. Hitting ball slightly off center – opposite to kicking foot

5. Body weight over ball (this is effected by placement of non-kicking foot)

6. Heel down, toe up

Progressions / Regressions:

(P1) – Increase service distance

(P2) – Reduce controlling area

(P3) - Set cone 4 yards behind box. Players must backpedal around the cone after passing the ball, and check to once their partner looks up and makes eye contact.

(R) – Reduce service distance

Warm Up - Rotation (10 mins)

Organization:

- 50x60 yards

- 2 teams

Instructions:

- Both teams pass the ball in highlighted combination and follow their pass (familiarize with rotation).

- Sequence changes in opposite direction on coaches command.

Coaching Points:

- Selection of appropriate passing technique (inside, driven, curled)

- Weight, angle, timing, trajectory and shape of pass

- Direction and distance of first touch

- Movement off the ball to create space (for self and teammates) and open passing lanes

- Speed, angle and timing of supporting runs

- Read triggers and body language of teammates

- Speed of play

Progressions:

- Limit number of touches

- Introduce time limit
