Station #1 - Attack to defense

4v4 or 5v5 to goal (Defending Transitions):

- Set up as shown in diagram (Blue defending big goal, Yellow attacking big goal)

- Ball starts with GK who rolls ball to a blue player...ALL yellow players must stay out of shaded area until Blue player takes 1st touch.

- Blue players must get one pass before they can find the coach (in Red) with a pass between the poles.

- If a ball goes out of play, GK starts next play by rolling ball to Blue player (again Yellow team must retreat outside of shaded area)

- We are exepecting the Blue team to lose the ball to Yellows so we can coach the Blue team on Transition from Attack-to-Defense on:

(1) Is the closet Blue player to the ball agressive but smart in their movements to stop Yellow attack?

(2) Do surrounding Blue players get back goal-side of the ball to deny forward pass or shot?

(3) Does the Blue team get into a compact shape?

(4) Are the Blue players tracking forward runs from the Yellow team?

Station #2 - Defending-to-Attacking

4v4 or 5v5 to Goal (Attacking Transitions):

- Same set up as station #1 but this time balls start with coach (in red)

- Blue team defending big goal, Yellow team attacking

- Coach starts each play by playing ball into Blue team and they try to pass back to coach in between the poles for a goal.

- When Yellow team wins the ball from Blue team:

(1) Are attacking players supporting the ball?

(2) Is the player on ball aware of immediate surroundings?

(3) Can the Yellow team ensure they complete first pass after transition from defending to winning the ball? (very important!)

(4) Can the Yellow team get into attacking shape with width and depth?

(5) Can the first pass go forward to create counter attack?

Station #3 - SSG Transitions

2v2v2v2 (or 3v3v3v3)

- Play 3v3 to goal

- Once Yellow team in diagram brings ball onto the field and shoots or ball goes out of play, the Blue team off at the end of the field brings new ball on immeidiatly playing aginst the Yellow attacking team, who are now defending.

- Repeat with yellow team off at the side bringing new ball onto play against Blue team, once ball leaves field.

- Simply put, when a team bring ball to attack, they will attack and when ball goes out, they will defend.

- You may want to put restriction that attacking team can only score in attacking half of the field?

Coaching Points:

- Walk players through this acitvity (don't just verbalize it)

- Have attacking players immediatly enter the field once ball is out of play

- Then coach your players on transitions from attack-to defense and vice versa

- Compact defending and getting goal side of the ball

- Attacking forward runs to keep attack flowing
