4v1 + 4v3 (25 mins)

Set up & organization

Set up an appropriate sixed pitch with a clearly marked half way line and two small goals.

Instructions

One team starts with one player in opponents half and cannot move out at any point. The other three players wait behind the goal line in their own half. The other team starts with four players in their half. The lone defending player starts off the game by passing to the attacking team’s deepest player. The attacking team must then put at least four passes together until they can advance into the oppositions half. Once there they must pass the ball at least twice before they can score. The other three defending players can now come in to create a 4v3. If the defending team win the ball they can move forward with no restriction. If the one defending player happens to win the ball in the 4v1 and score, his goal counts for 3.

Coaching points

Lots of technique coaching points here in the flow

Can the attacking team look to create space and overloads?

If the defending team win the ball can they transition quickly and make a penetrating pass?

Can both teams recognise width and depth and its importance in keeping possession?

Progressions

If you have a resting team use them as bumpers around the pitch as shown in diagram.
