2v2+4 Passing, Possession Combination

2v2+4 Passing Posession Combination - 15 Minutes

Set Up

- create a grid

- 2 players from each team should align themselves diagonally across the field from each other at two of the corners (outside the grid)

- the remaining players play 2v2 inside the grid

Instructions

- players play 2v2 inside the grid and attempt to play to one of the outlet players on their team

- once a pass is made to the outside player the players switch, so the outside player dribbles or passes into their team-mate and plays 2v2. The player passing to the outside player takes his spot and becomes the target player at his cone

- the new attacker plays 2v2 in an attempt to combine with their team-mate on the other corner. If the corner is denied by the defending players, the team should play to their most open diagonal player in an attempt to keep possession of the ball

- If the defensive team wins the ball, they become the attackers and attempt to keep possession as described above

Variations

- play 3v3 in the middle of the grid

- Limit the number of touches (2-3)

Coaching Points

- Players should play with speed and constantly moving to open up and give options to the player with the ball

- Make sure the supporting players give the ball carrier good supporting angles and are getting into undefended space in order to receive the pass (passing lanes)

- passes should be made to keep possession and players should keep scanning the field in an attempt to find the most space and least amount of pressure

- when open, supporting players should let the ball carrier know by shouting 'open' or 'yes'
