3v3+2 Rondo (10 mins)

Setup: 25 x 15 grid with 2 teams of 3 plus 2 neutrals.

Organization: Team in possession scores by getting ball from neutral to neutral and back.

Progressions: [a] limit touches, [b] targets have 1 touch, [c] must be played into target on one touch, [d] if you play into a target, one of your teammates must get ball back.

Coaching Points: work rate, ball movement, speed of play, speed of thought, correct body positioning, good first touch, awareness of space, weight and accuracy of passes, movment off the ball to support

Snake (15 mins)

Set Up: Four rows, each row roughly 9 yards wide by 18 yards long, players set up as shown. Ladder set up on outside of box on same side as starting ball.

Organization: Players start by passing the ball around the grid in a snake pattern. Players play the ball to the next person, and follow their pass to the next position.

Progressions: [a] players start by playing the ball in order, receieving the ball across their body and playing to the next player. When the ball gets two people ahead, we start another ball, [b] players in middle receieve the ball from wide player and set it for the player who hits a longer swtiching pass across pitch, [c] central player recieves and takes a tough across the row and drops the ball back with heel for wide player who checks in and plays ball acorss box, [d] players choice.

Coaching Points: focus on technique, receieving the ball across body, checking shoulder before receiving the ball, weight and accuracy of the pass, communication, laying the ball off properly, quick movement off the ball, rythym, first touch

6 v 6 + 4 (20 mins)

Set Up: Roughly 30 x 30 yard area, with four 5 x 5 boxes on each side. We will play 6 v 6 with 4 nuetrals fixed into the boxes.

Organization: Teams maintain possession with the ability to link up with the neutrals in the boxes, those neutrals play with the team in possession. Cannot defend the ball inside the boxes. 10 consecutive passes is a goal. Rotate neutral players.

Progressions: [a] when ball enters a box, it cannot leave the box from the same side it entered, [b] can play box to box, [c] limit touches, [d] remove neutrals, play 8 v 8 inside the grid and boxes remain free zones for team in possession to pass into and same rules apply as above.

Coachig Points: Open body positioning, awareness, weight and accuracy of passing, movement off the ball, good support play of others on ball, first touch

6 Goal Game (20 mins)

Set Up: 60 x 30, 8 v 8 with each team defending and attacking 3 goals, divided into three zones.

Organization: Open game, where the object it to score in the goals, but a team cannot make more than 3 passes in a specific zone. Can choose to have players dribble or pass the ball into the goals.

Progressions: [a] put GK behind the goals, 1 point for through the goal, 3 points for through the goal and to a GK, [b] limit touches, etc.

Coaching Points: open body position, awareness, spacing, movement off the ball, receiving the ball to go forward or switch the play, check surroundings, quality of technique, creating space to work in, quick switching

Switch to Overload (20 mins)

Set-Up : Pitch is divided into thirds (2 wide sections and a central zone), clearly marking out the zones we want the balls switched between. Teams line up in 2-3-2 or 3-3-1 plus GK.

Organization: Open play to goal, If the play is started in the right zone it must make its way to the left hand zone before an attack can take place. The ball can travel from side to side as many times as needed, but must be minimum of 1 switch before going to goal.

Progressions: [a] in each of the wide zones a 2v1 can take place but no more than this, this is to encourage ball retention and allow more success on the attacking side, [b] free play

Coaching Points: awareness of when to switch and how to use the switch to play forward and create overloads, body positiong and technical execution of passes, varied switches, recognition of overloads and ability to create numbers up situations.
