The objective of the session is to place players into situations so that they can practice various attacking options and gain confidence in using them during a game.

Warm-up (15 mins)

Organization:

- 20x20 grid, larger where more players are attending.

- each player has a ball and is dribbling within the area.

- lots of touches on the ball (use left / right foot)

a) use inside and outside of foot

b) tick-toks, toe-taps

- Change of direction and speed (do not go in circles)

Quick Feet:

- one coach per set of cones.

- hops (single/double legs), side-to-side, in & out

1v1 Opposite Goals (15 mins)

Organization:

- 15 x 15 or larger depending on size of kids

- Coaches plays ball into team, first player on each team enters the grid and player with ball looks to score on either net.

Progression:

- On Coaches command player sprints to corner cone and then back to home before entering grid

- Must score in 7 seconds or less

Coaching Points:

- Quick change of direction

- Pace

- Different cuts to beat defender / opponent

- Face defender / opponent to take him on

- Creativity / Attacking Mentality

Shoot & Apply Pressure (15 mins)

Organization:

- 20x10 grid

- Objective of drill is to learn how to strike the ball under pressure on goal.

- Player A starts off the drill by running with the ball through the gates. Once he clears the gates he must take a striker on the empty net before performing a recovery run to apply pressure to player B.

- Player B will commence his run once player A has pass through their gate.

- Defender remains in the grid until they can win the ball and play

to their awaiting teammate(s) outside

- Coach to re-start game if ball is played out or lost

Coaching Points:

- Accuracy before power

- Part of foot when striking

- Recovery run back to apply pressure to other attacker

- Speed of Play = fast

4 Corners (Ball Familiarity) (15 mins)

Organization:

- 12x12 grid with inside square only 3-4 yds apart

- Objective is for each player to practice their touches on the ball using all parts of the foot.

- Players will rotate after each turn working different moves such as: CRUYFF, FAKE and TAKE, STOP and GO, STEP OVER, SCISSORS, PULL BACK (V Cut), INSIDE / OUTSIDE, ROLLOVER

Progression:

- Use only left foot

- Free style (let them do their own moves for a few mins)

Coaching Points:

- Head up

- Quick change of direction

- Change of pace after change of direction - GAME PACE

- Be creative

4 Goal Game (Wide Play) (15 mins)

Organization:

- 20 x 20 yard grid, larger if space permits.

- divide the group into 2 equal teams of 4 players, no GKs

- unlimited touches to all players to start.

- players look to score on either goal by shooting or dribbling (depends if cones are used for nets)

Progressions:

- must score or dribble with non-dominant foot

Coaching Points:

- speed of play = fast

- decision making on which net to attack (play away from pressure)

- creativity / attacking mentality

Game (15 mins)

Organization:

- Make a 30 x 25 yard grid, smaller if less players

- divide the group into 2 equal teams of 5 + GK required

- make the teams rotate GKs every 4 mins.

Progressions:

- One touch finish are worth 2 goals

- finishing with non-dominant foot worth 2 goals

Coaching Points:

- speed of play = fast (where possible)

- decision making

- attacking mentality

- team defending (everyone is behind the ball when it's lost)

- game management when in possession (don't simply kick it away)

- urgency to score when behind
