Warm Up (10 mins)

Co-ordinated warm up. 2 Groups in channeled area. Will perform the following:

1) Jog x2

2) Hamstrings x2

3) Lunges x2

4) Quads x2

Will add in ball to perform ball mastery.

1) Insides

2) Outside

3) Inside/Outside

4) Roll/Touch

Will then add in fast feet elements to increase tempo.

1) Quick Steps

2) Big Strides

3) 3 Quarter Pace

4) 1 Sprint

Small-Sided Activity - Passing Through Gates (25 mins)

Setup:

Place gates randomly (1 gate per 2 players) around your training area.

Players partner up across from each other passing through the gates.

1st Activity:

2 touch passing through the gates using the inside surface of the foot.

2nd Activity:

1 touch passing through the gates using the inside surface of the foot.

3rd Activity:

Pass outside of the gates and take first touch to the other end - pass across to teammate - repeat. (do not pass through gates - but on the outside of them). Use multiple surfaces (inside/outside).

4th Activity:

Have players see how many gates they can pass through. Moving throughout the grid passing through various gates.

Make each activity a competition to see who can get the post passes in a set-time (30 sec - 1 min, etc)

Coaching Points:

Activity 1: Plant foot next to the ball - pointing to your target. Open your hips. Heel Down, Toe Up when striking and receiving the ball. Keep your ankle locked.

Activity 2: Strike the ball in the middle (not below or above the mid-line) to ensure it stays on the ground. Follow through keeping your knee bent through the process. Have ready feet to receive

Activity 3: Open hips to take your first receiving touch to the other side of the gate.

Make eye contact with partner

Lock ankle, follow through

VARIATIONS: Switch partners after each activity.

Technical Repititions (semi-opposed) (15 mins)

Organization:

1) 24x10 yd area with 4 yd zone in the center for the defenders

2) Groups of 6 set up as shown

Instructions:

1) One pair starts with the ball in possession

2) They will pass the ball back and forth looking for the opportunity to play a lofted pass to beat the defender and find a player on the far side

3) 1 pt for every pass that is succesfully played through the center area to the opposite side without the defender intercepting,

4) Defender scores 1 pt by intercepting the ball

5) rotate after a set amount of time or a set number of points

Coaching Points:

1) First touch at an angle out of feet, head up to observe target

2) Position of standing foot

3) Angle locked, toe pointed down and away

4) Make contact with big knuckle of big toe at bottom half of the ball to create loft

5) Follow through toward target

6) Get in line with the ball to receive

7)Choose appropriate surface to receive with (use warmup to review techniques to receive out of the air)

8) Cushion touch to maintain possession inside the receiving area

Progressions:

Can make this a conditioned game by putting both areas together and making 5v5 with 5 in the middle.

Condition Game (25 mins)

Organization: 4 v 4 (Two Fields)

Instructions: Players must get 5 consecutive passes before trying to knock down the balls on the cones.

Team that knocks down most of the balls wins.

Coaching Points:

1) First touch at an angle out of feet, head up to observe target

2) Position of standing foot

3) Angle locked, toe pointed down and away

4) Make contact with big knuckle of big toe at bottom half of the ball to create loft

5) Follow through toward target

6) Move off the ball
