Warm-Up: Technical Box (20 mins)

Description

25x30. All players have a ball. Push them to get as many touches as possible. I usually have them work at a high intensity for 90 seconds and then rest for 30 seconds. For example: How many touches can you get? I don't like this as it is open ended. I prefer to tell them, "Get 100 touches" in 90 seconds so that their is a clear goal. Having them take a touch and then a step is vital.

We want to make sure that each player can now perform: Scissors, Drag back / Magic Turn and another of your choosing.

Progressions

Take ____ amount of touches, and then:

- Toe taps

- Foundations

- Turn and Explode

Coaching Points

Good contact with the ball

Knees bent a little / low center of gravity

Accelerate after turning

Use the weak foot

Head up

Activity 1: End Zone (15 mins)

Description

Split the group into 4. The Greens start with the ball. The aim is to 'beat the defender' and dribble into the end zone. Notice how the field is split in half to create 2 seperate channels. This is plenty of space for the players work in. As the Green starts to dribble out, the White must quickly get to half way. Start with passive defenders - i.e. do not instruct them to try to tackle, simply get in the way a little bit. The Green will perform a move (the scissor) to get around the defender and dribble into the end zone.

Green leaves the ball and runs (outside of the field) back to his/her line. White takes the ball back to his/her line. Immediately the next Green begins to dribble. After the second Green has gone, White will have both soccer balls and it will now be their turn to attack.

Coaching Points

Close control leading up to the defender

Confident and convincing 'scissor' to send the defender the wrong way

Bigger touch afterwards to accelerate away from defender

Description

2 teams of 4. Green start with the balls. One at a time, the Greens must dribble out and try to score. You can score in either goal (1 point) or you can take the defender on and dribble through the Red gates (5 points).

After each Green has had a turn, switch roles. Whites would attack the Blue gates.
