Passing exercise (10 mins)

What?

Pro-active passing - making passes that will help create opportunities to score goals

When?

When we are in possession

Where?

Anywhere on the pitch

Why?

To create goal scoring opportunities

Set Up

Create an area around 10x15 metres (x2)

How to Play

Short, short, long. Middle player plays bouce pass for outside players (see diagram A)

Swap roles every 2 minutes.

Progressions

1) Can we play all passes with one touch if possible?

2) Add a defender who attempts to cut out through ball (see Diagram B). Defender to dribble out of the box if he intercepts ball.

Skill Acquisition 1 (15 mins)

Set Up

Create a field 25x35 metres with three teams of 3.

How to Play

3 v 3 + 3. Two teams play possession using the neutral team when they are in possession (6v3). To score 1 point the team in possesion must get ball from one end neutral player to another.

Central neutral player must play through ball on one touch for it to count but has unlimited touches at all other times.

Swap roles after 3 minutes.

Progressions

1) Limit touches (3 touch max)

Players tasks

1) Can you create room for yourself or others by finding space?

2) Can you play quickly using 1 or 2 touch?

3) Can you receive the ball facing forwards, if not can you bounce the ball back?

4) Can you support in front or behind?

Skill Acquisition 2 (20 mins)

Set Up

Create a field using width of the penalty box plus 12 yards. Play 4v4 + Neutral.

How to Play

Play begins with the neutral player/coach who plays the ball in to the player in the biggest space. The team in possession combine to score. If the defending team win the ball, play to the neutral player before attempting to score.

Play must always go through the neutral player before attempting to score. If ball goes out, play begins with neutral player whose ball it is.

The neutral player plays for the team in possession and can be used at anytime.

Progressions

Neutral player on one touch

Must score within 4 passes

Limit touches to encourage pro-active passing

Player Tasks

Can you play quickly using 1 or 2 touch?

Can you find a space where you can receive the ball facing forward?

Can you take a positive first touch to play forward?

Small Sided Game (20 mins)

Set Up

Create a field 25x35 metres playing 4v4 up to 7v7 inc GK's.

How to Play

Normal football rules apply except no corners (ball to start with GK whose team won the corner) and kick in's when ball goes out.

Note - Play even teams up to 7v7. If odd numbers, use extra player as a neutral.
