Organization:10X10 GRID 8 PLAYERS 1 gate

Instructions:

-The attacking players try to get through the gate in under 5 seconds

-the defender try to tag the attacker before the attacker get through the gate defender also have 5 seconds.

-Switch position after each round

warm up

Organization:

1. 20x20 grid

2. 2 players one soccer ball

3. Players will switch roles from attacker to defender.

4. 1st attacker will start on the line with the ball

Instructions:

1. To start, players will pass the ball back and forth. On the fourth pass, the defender will look to close down the space and pressure the ball. Then switch roles.

2. Attackers will look to dribble in a zig zag from one side to the other.

3. Defenders will work on keeping the attacker in front of them and pressuring on an angle to force the attacker one way and then dropping their back foot to change the angle.

4. Once players reach the opposite side they will switch roles and return.

Coaching Points:

1. Close down the space at speed

2. Once defender gets closer slow down to keep attacker in front

3. Close down the space on an angle, force the attacker one way

4. Look for the right moment to win the ball when the attacker takes a bad touch (work on the poke tackle)

Progressions: P-have defenders look to win the ball off of the attackers bad touch (poke tackle)

Organization:

1. Two grids, 20x20 yds

2. Two teams, each attacking player with a ball

3. A defender from white team defends the blue team in their sqaure; vice versa

4. Play several rounds

Instructions:

1. In the grid, attackers will look to dribble the ball away from the defender.

2. The defender is trying to kick all of the balls out of the grid as quick as he can.

3. Once an attacker loses their ball, they can look to combine with another player in work in a group to keep the ball away.

4. After all the soccer balls are out of the grid, switch the defender and play again

Coaching Points:

1. Defenders need to be aggressive

2. Defenders are looking to apply high pressure

3. Defenders are looking for the right moment to win a poke tackle and play the ball out of the grid

4. Defenders should look to force the attacker to the outside of the grid.

Progressions: P- Add a second defender

Organization:

1.20 x 15 yard area setup as shown

2.4 players (2 Attackers, 2 Defenders) set up as shown

3.1 ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1.Defending player starts with the ball

2.Defending player passes into the attacking player

3.The attacking player moves out to receive the ball and attempt to beat the defender and dribble through one of the two scoring gates situated on the defenders end line

4.Defending player becomes active on the attackers first touch and attempts to win the ball

5.Players rotate roles after each attempt

6.Award points for successful attempts and keep score

Coaching Points:

1.Deny penetration

2.Speed of approach

3.Angle of approach, force player on to weak side

4.Correct moments to tackle

5.Faint to tackle to force a mistake

6.Tackling techniques

Progressions:

P - If the defender wins the ball they now can score by dribbling through attacker’s scoring gates

R - Defending players become active on their pass

Conditioned Game

Organization:

1.40 x 25 yard area set up as shown

2.6 players (2 Teams of 3) set up as shown

3.1 ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1.The game always starts with a pass from the goalkeeper

2.The player that receives the ball plays 1v1 against their opponent to goal

3.The other two players remain inactive until the game restarts

4.If the ball leaves the area the game is restarted with the oppositions goalkeeper

5.The goalkeeper should look to pass to the best placed forward

Coaching Points:

1.Deny penetration

2.Speed of approach

3.Angle of approach, forces player on to weak side

4.Correct moments to tackle

5.Tackling techniques

6.Transition to attack

Progressions:

P – Play 2v2 and allow players to combine

R – Allow 2nd defender to be active to provide cover
