Small Sided Game

Set Up:

Reds GK-4-3-1 vs Blues GK-2-3-3

Working with the Reds, focus is playing through two Full Backs and 3 Central Midfield players.

Playing area from 18 yard box to 18 yard box.

Aim

Reds to focus on using central midfield players and full backs when attacking. What different combinations can be put together to get in behind the blues and unleash a shot at goal. Red team to know triggers for movements and options of when to pass ball.

Conditions

1. Red central midfield players to play the width of 18 yard box.

2. Red full backs and blue wingers to play outside the width of 18 yard box.

3. Red target man to play as high as possible.

4. Blue team have 6 seconds to have a shot at goal upon winning the ball from reds.

Red markers placed on the pitch as a reference for the midfield players to stay inside so that they don't cross into the full backs space.

GK to play ball to either Full Back (presuming not being marked)

Triggers/Movements

1. When player 3 receives the ball, and blue defender is not touch tight, he has the option to:

> pass ball straight into player 9 (red line) for this to happen red 8 must not block the pass into 9.

> pass ball to player 4, if lost his marker, (green line). Red 4 can then look to switch the play to other full back or if player 3 has made a run down the wing once passed then red 4 can look to play out wide.

> pass ball to player 8 (blue line) who can be on half turn and drive forward. Or red 8 can retain the ball and red 3, once passed ball, can run forward (black line) and recieve the return pass from 8.

2. Players 8 and 10 to not come any deeper than the top of the centre circle, and to push no wider than the 18 yard box.

3. Player 4 to not go any higher than the centre circle when receiveing the ball.

4. Player 9 to play as high as possible and be ready to receive ball into feet, or in behind blue CB.

GK to pass ball to FB

1. When FB receives the ball, and blue defender is touch tight, he has the option to pass ball to red 10 continue run down the line and recieve the return pass from midfield 10. FB can then look to cross ball for the red 9, 8 and 10.

Triggers/movements

1. When CB receives the ball, midfield players 8 and 10 split as wide as 18 yard box, player 4 to stay central. Can player 6 play ball into red 9.

2. If Red 9 receives the ball, players 8 and 10 to run past red 9 to receive ball for a shot at goal. Player 4 must not come past the centre circle incase blue team win the ball back.

GK to play ball to CB who plays to FB

Triggers/Movements

1. When CB recieves ball, if the option is not availabe to play ball into red 9, then look to play red 2.

2. If red 2 is being marked tight, then he should attempt to run past blue defender to receive ball from CB. Red 2 can then cross ball to red 9 and forward running midfield players. Or pass ball inside to red 10.

3. As ball travles to red 4, red 8 and 10 will be split staying past the centre cirlce but not going wider then 18 yeard box.

4. If red 4 can pass straight through to red 9 the he should try this.

5. If blue midfielder is blocking the pass through to red 9, then if red 4 can pass ball to red 10 or red 8 then he should try.

6. Red full backs will be touchline wide, but slightly further back than DLM, blue winger will either mark touch tight or drop to halfway line.

What If...

1. GK has played ball to one of the CB's and all players are marked?

> CB can attempt to pass ball back to GK and GK recycles the ball out the other side,

> CB can then attempt to pass ball to a player that has lost his marker or CB can run with ball up field until a blue defender has to engage him. This will mean that a player will be free.

2. Trust midfeild players to be able to keep possession of the ball, can they receive the ball and release it within two touches.
