Throw Away (10 mins)

Throw Away 20x30yards

The coach stands in the middle of the field with all the players and a ball each. Very quickly the coach will throw the balls and ask the players who can bring theirs back the quickest. Coach should then change position.

CP's

First few times they bring it back any way they want

Option 2: Can they bring the ball back using feet only?

Option 3: different feet (let them know which one)

Soccer points for the fastest player

Can players learn that coach moves every time?

Welocme to Soccer City (10 mins)

Welcome to Soccer City 20x30yards

Invite the players to a magical soccer city, where your ball gives you power. Play a simple game of Coach says Body Parts. Two main instructions: Red Light = Stop with foot on the ball. Green Light = Go.

CP's

Enthusiasm and imagination are absolutely essential in the first session. One ball per child in warm up. Body parts is a fun way of stretching younger players. Make it enjoyable and interactive. e.g put your nose on the ball and ask "what does it smell like?"

Intro to Soccer City (10 mins)

Intro to Soccer City 20x30yards

Introduce 3 different Speeds and sounds to drive at:

Bike Speed = Slow

Truck Speed = Medium

Sports Car Speed = Fast

Intoduce Bye Bye (Drag Back Turn)

Toe taps when going over a hill in soccer city.

CP's

Head up, keep ball close, use both feet, change direction moving into space.

Bye Bye: Plant standing foot next to the ball. Place kicking foot on top of the ball and drag back across body so shielding ball.

Toe Taps: Tap top of the ball with both feet at speed. Can be described as driving up hill to children. Tapping ball with inside of feet (revving engine). Always encourage small touches.

Golden Egg (15 mins)

Golden Egg 20x30yards

Coach makes grids in each corner of the grid. Each corner is a nest for birds(players). Eggs on the middle worth 10 points have to saved and returned to the nests. Players can steal from the other nest.

CP's

Players can start by using hands.

Spread balls slightly to avoid collision.

Have to use dribbling skills praticed in the session.

Eventually encourage to use feet only.

Encourage players to use Bye Bye when saving the Eggs.

Small Sided (15 mins)

Small Sided Scrimmage 20x30yards

4v4 or 3v3 no GK's

CP's

Extra points for good dribbling technique and Bye Bye Turn. If ball goes out, coach feeds a new one into the player in the most space, to discourage bunching up. Highlight main points of performing Bye Bye to get away from opposition player. Bye Bye to get away from opposition player. Don't give set positions e.g Defender. Always emphasize keeping the ball close to feet.

Children at this age don't want to give the ball away and this can be used to encourage closer ball control.
