Session based on 20-22 players

Session will be divided into 2 groups and mirrored, to allow appropriate game realistic scenarios 

Aim is to imprint and tease out knowledge of how to create supporting angles within posession scenarios

Warm Up (15 mins)

Set-up and instructions

- Reds and Blues in a defined area, with yellows as neutral players

- 1 Ball per team (Red and Blue)

- Players keep the ball in their team, with the help of any yellow

- Perform range of dynamic stretching exercises, at intervals

Key Coaching points

- Excellent passing and recieving techniques - inside/outside of the foot, weight and timing and back foot recieving

- Ability to be aware of space, time and support for player on the ball - recognize passing lanes

- Can you read the next pass according to the recieving players body language/shape?

- Begin the process of good commuication habits - visual, verbal

- Excellent technique of dynamic stretches and correct strecthing for demands of the session

Progressions

- Nuetral players, must play within 3 seconds or 1 touch - Supporting players now react quicker

- Make GK's into Nuetrals, who can use their hands and feet to distribute

Inside Targets Game (20 mins)

Set-up and instructions:

- Remove 1 ball and play Blues vs Reds in defined area - begin with 1 team defending (plays ball back to team in possession, when they win it - specifically for U12)

- 3 Target players move freely and randomly around the playing area

- Team scores every time the successfully pass to a target player

- Players keep the ball and score as many goals as possible

Progressions/Regressions:

1. Progress to defending team, keeping the ball on a turnover

2. A team scores by passing to a target player, then receiving the ball back from them

3. Increase or decrease the number of target players to increase/decrease challenge

Key Coaching points:

- Excellent passing and recieving techniques - inside/outside of the foot, weight and timing and back foot recieving

- Ability to be aware of space, time and support for player on the ball - recognize passing lanes

- Don't force our pass to the targets, remain patient and composed

- Now ability to be aware of defenders and where to take your 1st touch

- Can you read the next pass according to the recieving players body language/shape?

- Must you always move into space to create a supporting angle for a player on the ball? Sometimes standing still or checking a run, creates the perfect angle

- Does a movement into space mean that you always want to recieve? Movement creates space and makes defenders think/run/work.

- Maintain the process of good commuication habits - visual, verbal, point, call

Goalkeeper/Target game (20 mins)

Set-Up and Instructions

- Reds vs Blues in a defined area

- Each team has 1 goalkeeper

- A team scores by passing the ball into the goalkeeper's hands or target players feet

- They must feed the goalkeeper in all four zones to win the game

Key Coaching points:

- Excellent passing and recieving techniques - inside/outside of the foot, weight and timing and back foot recieving

- Ability to be aware of space, time and support for player on the ball - recognize passing lanes

- Don't force our pass to the targets/GKS, remain patient and composed

- Now ability to be aware of defenders and where to take your 1st touch

- Can you read the next pass according to the recieving players body language/shape?

- How do we create angles, for a GK to roll out? Drop and show to recieve on back foot

- Must you always move into space to create a supporting angle for a player on the ball? Sometimes standing still or checking a run, creates the perfect angle

- Does a movement into space mean that you always want to recieve? Movement creates space and makes defenders think/run/work.

- Maintain the process of good commuication habits - visual, verbal, point, call

Progressions:

- The Goalkeeper must use hands or must use feet to recieve

- When playing to the GK, the pass must be lofted into his hands

8v8+4 Bumper Game (35 mins)

Set-up and instructions

- Reds vs Blues with GK's

- 4 players on outside are bumpers/neutrals/support players

- A team scores by scoring a goal, as normal

- All restarts begin from the GK

- Rotate neutral/bumpers

Progressions

- Supporting/Neutral players must play within 3 seconds

- When receiving from a supporting/neutral, the inside player must play within 3 seconds

- Allow free play - End session with players plying their trade freely

- Observe, but do not coach for 10 mins

Key Coaching points

- Re-inforce all points from ealier parts of session

- Excellent technique

- Coach movement to create space/support, relative to area's/positions on the field

- Allow players to fail and/or try

- Maintain flow of a normal game

- Observe movement to allow GK to play from the back

End with cool down and dynamic stretches: 5 mins
