Cannon Ball Run (15 mins)

Organization:

1.20 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2.8 players set up as shown

3.10 balls

Story/Description:

1.Pirates (players) are all battling to be the “Captain of the Ship”

2.To do this they have to get from one end of the pirate ship to the other without getting hit by a cannon ball (soccer ball)

3.The cannon balls are being fired by the coach

4.Coach yells “CANNON BALLERS, ARE YOU READY?” to which the players respond “FIRE IN THE HOLE!” (This only happens when the first player is out)

5.Coach yells “PIRATES ARE YOU REDAY?’ pirates shout ‘RRRRRRRRRR’. Coach then yells “CANNON BALL RUN” and all the pirates run to the other end of the ship

6.Any pirate that gets hit with a cannon ball then becomes a cannon ball-er and helps fire cannon balls

7.The last pirate left is the Captain

Coaching Points:

1.Keep your eye on the cannon balls and use different movements to not get hit

2.Move quickly across the pirate ship

3.Keep your eye on the cannon ball when you hit it

4.Try to time the firing of the cannon ball so that the pirates run into it

Developments:

1.P – Make the pirate ship wider

MLS Cup Shoot Out (15 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players set up as shown

3. Supply of balls by the coach

4. Pinnies tied to each goal to mark them

Story/Description:

1.The coach splits the group into two teams and asks them to come up with their team name for the MLS Cup Shoot Out

2.Each team makes a line ready for their turn

3.The coach then calls out the number of players that go out and play from each team (1=first player in line 2=first and second player in line)

4.The game is over when a goal is scored or the ball leaves the area

5.Players then return to their team and the coach calls out a new number

Coaching Points:

1.Be quick to the ball

2.If you don’t get there first, defend the goal by getting your body between the player and the goal

3.When your player has the ball move away from them into space

Developments:

1.P – Players now run around a corner marker before they are allowed to enter the game

2.R – Call numbers in order so that players understand when to enter the game, feed a new ball inside the area for players to continue playing if the ball goes out a lot in the early stages

Transformers (15 mins)

Organization:

1. 20x20 yard area as shown

2. 5x5 yard area as shown

3. 1 ball per player

4. 1 pinnie per player

Story/Description:

1. The Decepticons (players) have taken control of planet Earth (larger area)

2. Optimus Prime (coach) must attempt to make Earth safe again by ridding the planet of the Decepticons by shooting them with his blaster (striking his ball at the players hitting their knee or anywhere below).

3. The Decepticons can transform into any type of vehicle to avoid getting hit by an Autobot blaster; a car to run really fast, or a jet to jump over the ball.

4. If a Decepticon leaves Earth or is hit by Optimus Primes blaster they must transform into a flying machine and fly back through space to Cybertron (smaller circular area) where they are transformed into Autobots and collect a blaster for themselves before returning to Earth to help Optimus Prime.

5. Players start the game with pinnies on to designate themselves as Decepticons, but when they fly to Cybertron they remove them to transform into Autobots.

6. Before Autobots fly back to Earth they must first charge up their blaster (perform ‘x’ amount of balls mastery techniques)

7. Play until the Earth is safe from all Decepticons!

Coaching Points:

1. Try to get as close as possible to a Decepticon before shooting your blaster.

2. Make sure you know where on Earth the Decepticons are by looking up.

3. Try to make sure you aim for a Decepticon and not just shoot your blaster when you can as it may end up in outer space and take a long time for you to get it back.

Developments:

1. R- All Decepticons can only transform into ground vehicles (cars, trucks etc.) which mean they can’t leave the ground (jump, dive) to avoid getting hit by an Autobot blaster.

2. P- An Autobots blaster will only work if you shoot it properly (using designated part of foot – inside or laces, if players use their toes then their blaster miss-fires and can’t hurt a Decepticon).
