Warm-up (15 mins)

Set-up:

-Each player has a ball and the aim is to shield their ball whilst kicking the balls of other players out of the area

-If a player is eliminated they must perform a footskill on the outside before re-entering the area

Coaching points:

-Side on with an open stance

-Knees bent for low centre of gravity

-Arm out to keep defender at arms length at all times

Progressions:

-Each player has 3 lives

Unopposed Practice (15 mins)

Set-up:

-Each player has a ball and is allowed to dribble around the area

-When they approach a cone they must stop and get into a shielding position

Coaching points:

-Side on with an open stance

-Knees bent for low centre of gravity

-Arm out to keep defender at arms length at all times

Progressions:

-Time restriction to see how many cones they can get to in correct shielding position

-Can they shield with their weaker side

Opposed Practice (15 mins)

Set-up:

-Each player has a ball except a designated number of stealers

-If a player is approached by a stealer they must get into a shielding position

Coaching points:

-As above

-Keep head up, be aware of oncoming stealers

-Keep ball away from sharks by accelerating into space

Progressions:

-Switch roles

-The stealers have 3 seconds to try and get the ball

SSG (15 mins)

Set-up:

-Teams of 3/4 play against each other

-Switch teams every 5 mins or so

Coaching points:

-Reinforce techniques used in practice (Shielding)

-Encourage players to use skill moves to beat opponents
