Aim:

-To improve individual ability to control the ball from the air

Duration of session: 1 hour 30 minutes

Number of players: 8

Equipment: balls, 2 sets of pinnies, 2 mini goals, cones, whiteboard and pen

Facility: outdoor field

Technical Warm up (15 mins)

Set up:

-place cones as above, 8 yards apart.

-divide group into groups of 2.

Activity:

-4 players at once (one from each line). One ball per line.

-Working to first cone only.

-Begin with light jog to middle and back. Repeat with lateral movement, backwards, skipping.

-Players dribble ball first cone and back - right foot, left foot, both feet, soccer boxes, toes taps

-scissors on motion

-ronaldo chops in motion

-V shapes in motion.

-Dribble to end cones and pass back.

(players must pass with left and right foot)

Dosage:

Intensity: Moderate to high

Reps: 2 for each exercise

Rest: 10 seconds between each rep

Coaching Points:

-close control

-use all surfaces of the foot

-TRY TO:

-Pass using the inside of your foot facing your target.

-receive the ball with an open body position.

-Provide a good pass with good weight and accuracy.

Workers and Servers (25 mins)

Set Up:

As above, players on outside 'server'

-Players on inside 'workers'

Activity:

-'Workers' recieve a pass from the 'servers' and pass back.

-Servers play in flighted ball, workers' control with instep/laces and pass back

-Repeat inside volley and half volley.

-Workers' must always reset through box in middle.

Progression:

-revieve from one server and pass ball out to a new server.

Dosage:

Intensity: Moderate to high

Activity: 90 seconds then rotate.

Reps: 10-12

Sets: 3

Rest: 1 minute between sets

Coaching Points:

-TRY TO:

-Pass using the inside of your foot facing your target.

-receive and control a flighted ball using different surfaces

-Provide a good pass with good weight and accuracy.

-Move to the ball.

Set up:

- 20 x 30 yards

- 4 v 4 plus Targets

Activity:

-4 v 4

- non-directional. Once a Team has scored at one target player they maintain possession and look to score at the other target.

Progression

-two / three touch limit

- less coaching, let them play

Dosage:

Intensity: High

Duration per game: 3 minutes

Reps: 4-6

Rest: 1 minute between games

Coaching Points:

TRY TO:

-Pass using the inside of your foot facing your target.

-receive the ball with an open body position.

-Move off the ball and support the recieving player with pass selection.

-Provide a good pass with good weight and accuracy.

-Maintain possession of the ball
