Passing Practice (15 mins)

Football Problem -

We are not using our opportunities to play out from the back when the option is there to do so.

Session Objectives -

To teach the team how to effectively play out from the goalkeeper.

What -

Attack - controlled possession

Where -

In our half

Who -

Our #1,2,3,4,5,6,8,10

When -

Our GK is in possession of the ball.

Why -

So we can build an attack from the back

Set Up

Create an area 40 x 45m split into thirds with discs or cones. Use two teams of 7 or 8 plus a coach or floater at each end. Have extra balls ready to use. Use discs as players starting points.

HOW TO PLAY

Each team use their own ball and play towards one end each. The practice always starts from each floater who passes into the defensive third and then teams move the ball through each third to the opposite end player and then return to their starting point.

PROGRESSIONS

1- CB's split and then pass to either FB.

2 - CB's pass to depeest CM and FB's move into mid third.

3 - CB passes to other CB and midfield 3 rotate.

4 - Must play a switch before playing to neutral end player.

Positional Game (20 mins)

SET UP

Create a pitch 25 x 30m with a mini goal and two gates at one end. Place extra balls at the opposite end and play 4 v 3.

HOW TO PLAY

The team of 4 score into the mini goal or by dribbling through either gate. The team of 3 score by dribbling over the line they're attacking (can use neutral for a one touch bounce pass). If the ball goes out of play the game restarts from the coach who passes to the team of 4.

Change the defenders every 2 mins.

PROGRESSION

Add a 10m retreating line if needed.

PLAYER TASKS

Can you set up in a diamond formation?

Can you split to make the pitch big?

Can you receive facing forwards or bounce the ball out the other side?

Can you either come short or go long to create space to receive?

If a team mate drives inside can you move outside and vice versa?

The reds try to score a regular goal and the blues score by dribbling over the half way line or playing to 9 and receiving back.

The game starts from the coach who passes to a yellow who then passes to the GK.

Player Tasks

2 & 5 - Can you get into a position as high and wide as possible?

6, 8 & 10 - Can one come short and two go long?
