5v2 Warm-up (10 mins)

5v2 Warm-up:

Set-up: 10 x 10

connect 10 passes the two in the middle stay in again

Progression:

i. once ball is played, wherever there are two players on one side of the square, one of them has to move to another side of the square. If two players stay on one side of the square for more than 2 passes, they both go in the middle. Same rules apply as original game.

ii. Game to 7 points. Offensive team gets one point if they split the two or if they connect 10 passes. Defensive team gets one point if they win it or if they dribble out they get two points.

Coaching Points: Passes are often not completed due to lazy supporting angles. If you see one of them not supporting the player with the ball then they go in the middle. There should be constant movement when playing this.

Lose Marker to Finish

Set-up: Half of group, with at least one ball each, on the outside of grid. The remainder play 1v1 inside the area 1v1. There are a variety of goals set-up around the area, as shown.

Scoring: Blue attackers try to shake off black defenders and get a point for scoring a goal in the right way on any of the four finishes.

Black defenders try to stop attackers from scoring but also get one point if they win the ball and pass it to a free server. Change roles after 1 minute.

Progressions:

1. Add further defender to increase the difficulty for the attackers. The extra defender can double-up on an attacker when required.

Shooting Chaos

Set-up: Field 40x40

Purple vs.Black play into large goals

Green vs. Blue play into two smaller goals

Progressions:

1. Rotate all teams so that each team plays the other and experiences attacking both the bigger and smaller goals.

2. Change goals so that all teams have two small goals to score in.

Challenges / Questions:

Can the players deal with the chaos of two games being played simultaneously?

Caution: Playing two games makes playing area very busy. If players are acting recklessly, address matters immediately. Possibly have only small goals to shoot on.

3 Zone Switch Game (15 mins)

"Breaking the Lines" to Big Goals

Set-up: 3 zone game in a 50x30 yards (with a 7 x 30 yard central zone). There is a 3v3 situation inside the 2 endzones, 1 neutral player inside the central zone and 2 Gk's.

Rules: Both teams try to score as many goals as possible. Both teams are locked into their endzone.Ball has to go through neutral midfielder who is unoppsed in the central zone.

Progressions:

1. Add two defensive midfielders who try to stop the passes of both teams going from the defence to offense zone. Passes can now either go directly from defence to attack or through the neutral midfielder, who has to deal with presence of two opponents.

2. Other attacking plaers can now 'drop off' into the central zone, where they can pick up the ball and attack from there.

Coaching Points: How can we break the lines better? Is central neutral looking to position themselves between two players for split pass?
