Warm Up / SAQ (15 mins)

Warm Up / Technical (SAQ)

Organization: One grid 12x12 with SAQ surronding the grid.

Activity:

Create two different colored teams. Have players pair up with someone on the other team. Players play tag first person to get to 3 wins.

 Progression #1: (SAQ)

Activity:

One team will remain in the sqaure with one soccer ball while the other (6/7/8) make there way to the outside of the grid. Players who are inside the grid will pass one ball around the sqare making sure sure with every pass there is a reaction. Players on the outside of the gird will be doing (3 minutes) of SAQ. At (Marker A) players will complete 10 toe touches, at (Marker B) players will complete 10 boxes/foundations.

 Coaching Points:

1. Be sure to maintain your agility, balance, coordination, and speed. (SAQ)

2. Have your head up always aware of where the next pass can be played. (Possession)

3. Play your teammates lead foot. (Possession)

Technical / Tactical (15 mins)

Technical / Tactical

Organization: Remove the SAQ from the outside of the orginal grid. Place 4 to 8 perimitter cones 15 yards from the center grid. Number of perimitter cones will depend on number of player.

 Activity:

Produce teams of (4/6) with equal numbers on the inside of the grid as the number of players with a ball on the outside. There should be two different teams. All players starting in the middle of the 12x12 grid will check into a player of the same color/team and recieve the pass. The players who recieves the ball must enter back into the grid with the ball and complete a pass to another teammate on the outside who they did not recieve the ball from. This is repeated several times or for (3 minutes) until players are switched out.

 Progression # 1:

Players will check in and recieve a pass from a player on the outside (complete a wall pass) then drive a ball/pass across the 12x12 grid in the air or firmily on the ground to a teammate on the other side. Make sure every time the player recieving a ball from the outside starts in the center grid.

 Coaching Points:

1. Make realistic and sharp runs to recieve the ball.

2. Try to get the ball on the half turn to speed up play.

3. Have spatial awarness and know who and what is around you at all times.

4. Always check your shoulder.

5. Make space so your teammate can play you the ball.

6. Make sure everything is positive and look to play forward.

Technical / Tactical (Continued/Progression)

Organization: Same space.

 Activity:

Players will now be playing (1v1, 2v1, 1v2) trying to receive the ball from one side of the diamond (perimitter), connect one pass inside the grid (12x12), then play out the other side. If this action is completed that team will gain a point. You are allowed to switch the ball to the other side of the grid without connecting a pass in the middle. However, you will not gain a point if you do this. You will keep possession thought. Players on the outside are not allowed to move off the cone more than a few feet to recieve the pass. If an inaccurate pass in made possession is switched to the other team.

 Progression #1:

Once the ball is recieved by the player checking out of the grid the player from the outside who played the pass may join making it a (2v1,3v2, etc.). Same rules apply... You are trying to connect a pass inside the grid and get the ball across to the other player on the outside of the grid.

 Coaching Points:

1. Be sure you are always moving into space where you can recieve the next pass.

2. Think about body shape when receiving a pass.

3. React to every pass. Always look to find new open space away from defenders.

4. Do not force passes in the center grid.

5. Take care of the ball and make good decisions. (when to play quick and when to slow things down)

Tactical (Small Sided) (20 mins)

Tactical

Organization: (4v4 + 1, 5v5 +1) All will depend on numbers.

 Activity: Small Sided Game

Teams are trying to score on the small goals at each end of the field. Players are only allowed to send one additional player forward into the next zone. Players cannot move backwards to help defend. In order to advance the ball into the attacking third (final zone) three passes must be completed, then a pass must be played into the checking forward. One player from the middle zone may enter the final third to create a 2v1 situation.

 Coaching Points:

1. React to every pass. Look to position yourself so we do not have to play negitive balls.

2. Make the space/zones big while you are in possession.

3. Player teammates on the correct foot (away from the defender or lead foot if they can carry the ball forwards)
