Conditioned Game (15 mins)

Set up

The size of the 18 yard box is split into 3 boxes.

Organization

Game that builds up an understanding of defensive positioning in 1v1 and working as a unit.

Step 1: Playings play in individual squares 1v1 against each other. White scores by beating yellow. White has to beat yellow through the cones on the right and left square but any where in the middle square. This allows defenders to think about how to show players away from goal.

Step 2: Now there is only one ball and we take away the red cones. Defenders can move any where inside the 3 squares however attackers must remain in their own squares. This allows the coach to introduce the correct movement in Pressure, Cover and Balance in a less pressured enviroment.

Step 3: Players can freely move anywhere.

Coaching Points:

Revise 1v1 defending points

Pressure - 1st defender steps to the ball to apply pressure

Cover - 2nd defender offers support diagonally behind the 1st defender (goal side)

Balance - the 3rd defender offers the balance making sure to hold the line and body shape is open to the field in case of a switch.

When ball is in central square. The Central Defender should press and the two full backs should pinch inside.
