Warm Up

Organization: each player has a ball working in the marked zone

Instructions: plenty of touches, working both feet-inside and out. stop-go (ball under control), stop/turn, step over, sissors, outside/inside hook, drop shoulder-left/right.

Coaching Points: head up, close control, look for space, see danger, quick feet, challenge players to try techniques, quality not tempo (unless instructed)

Unopposed Technical

Organization: 1 player on every cone without a ball. remaining players at start point with a ball.

Instructions: player 1 passes to player 2 and follows pass. player 2 does same to player 3 and so on and player 8 dribbles ball to join back of player 1's. once 1st player is clear of player 2 next player 1 can start. avoid ball hitting cones. players receiving the ball to work around and behind cones.

looking at quality and not tempo.

DEVELOPMENT- more balls in play. increase tempo (expect a drop in quality)

Coaching Points:

Receiving ball on back foot

Player receiving ball. Movement away from ball/cone- shoulder check (check space behind and around)- 1st touch back foot (out of body) 2nd touch is a pass- follow pass.

Player passing ball. Timing (when to pass ball)- Weight of pass (not too hard or too soft) - Accuracy (of pass)

DEVELOPEMENT.

receive ball on outside of front foot and receiving ball on inside of front foot.

Opposed Session

Organization:

coach reds. manage blue

5 v 2 keep ball.

INSTRUCTION.

Reds retain possession. 5 passes equal a point/goal. a pass between 2 defenders equal a point/goal.first to 5 wins. if blues win ball can retain possession and if can dribble ball out of square win a point/goal.

Developement. after a number of passes can reds transfer possession into clear grid

Coaching Points:

create space by offering width and length

Need a central point (5)

decision making on how to receive and protect ball

Receive the ball on the back foot. when and how to pass

weight/timing/execution of pass
