Technical Warmup (15 mins)

1) Netball & Ball Mastery warmup

2) Cruyff

3) Tackling techniques

Setup:

30x30 grid

2 teams

Activity:

One team has a ball with each player. Attackers move around the grid to allow defenders to practice tackling techniques. After defender tackles, player should dribble out of grid and back in to find a new defender to work with.

On each technique defender should first close, apply pressure and then match speed of dribbler before applying tackle:

+ Poke - While moving backwards look for mistake and opportunity to poke ball away using front food. Should still continue moving backwards after poke attempt. This is not a stab, but a safe way to knock ball away while staying between attacker and goal.

+ Front foot tackle - Defender looks for mistake and uses outside of front foot to win ball. Also, must drop shoulder and get low as this tackle will most likely lead to body contact.

+ Back foot tackle - Similar to front foot, but using back foot since it's more reliable and has more power.

+ Step-in-front - Attacker takes big touch around defender. Defender steps in front of attacker with closer foot/shoulder and wins the space nearest the ball.
