Warm Up (20 mins)

Organization:

30x40 yard area

Field marked off as above

12 players

Half of the players with a ball

Instructions:

- Players inside the area look to receive a ball from a teammate

- Before receiving the ball, player must make eye contact and communicate with their passing player, and have to run out around a cone and receive the lead pass back in the area

- Passers must look to disguise pass and use all parts of the foot (outside, inside, laces, etc.)

- How creative can you be with runs (overlaps, give/go, etc.) and passes (no look, driven, etc.)?

Coaching Points:

- Head up to make eye contact with receiver

- Shape of body to get/disguise pass

- Select proper surface to receive the ball (inside)

Main Theme (35 mins)

Organization:

20x30 yard area

6 players(2 attackers, 2 defenders, 2 targets)

Set up multiple fields as needed; add more players in the middle if needed

Instructions:

- Teams score by scoring playing into either of the end target players

- Once goal is scored, team tries to work the ball back to the other target player ("make it/take it")

- The target players must stay outside of the field of play and can only move side-to-side on the endline; they have 3 touch maximum to play back to team that played them the ball

- If the ball leaves the area then the targets start the game with a kick in to opposite team

Coaching Points:

- Get in line with the ball

- Surface of foot selection to play and receive pass

- Directions of touch to enable next action

- Speed of play

Progressions:

- Play to goals (target players to sidelines instead of endline)

Main Theme II (30 mins)

Organization:

Diamond of cones (12 yards long, 8 yards across)

3 players per group

1 soccer ball per group

Instructions:

- Now players are free to pass in any direction

- Every time a player receives the ball, they must have support on their left and right

- Play for 2 minutes - the ball cannot enter the middle of the diamond

- How many passes can you make?

Coaching Points:

- Movement as the ball travels

- Passing towards the back foot of receiving player

- Passing with correct technique

- Head up after 1st touch

Progressions:

- Introduce passing patterns (double pass, etc.)

Main Theme III (35 mins)

Organization:

- 40 x 30 yard area set up as shown

- 12 players (3 teams of 4) set up as shown

- Additional balls around the outside

Instructions:

- 3 minute games

- Team score by knocking their opposition’s balls off the cones.

- 1st to knock down all 4 balls is the winner

Coaching Points:

- Supporting foot is next to the ball, pointed at target

- Ankle locked, toe up

- Follow through towards target with striking foot remaining open throughout

- Body weight over the ball

Progressions:

- Limit touches

- Make area smaller
