Warm Up - 4v1

Intervals:

60 seconds work + 60 seconds of dynamic movements x 10 reps = 20 minutes

Setup:

8x8 grids

5 players per grid

Activity:

a) 4v0 - practice moving ball according to following rules:

- Must play 2 touch

- Must receive opposite foot (open body)

- Must get to nearest cone to passer

- Must say name of player passing to

b) 4v1 - add a defender that can get out of the middle by stealing ball or recogning when ANY rule is broken

Rotation: Mistake-->Defender-->Rest-->Attacker

Progression:

+ After 5 passes, transfer to another grid

3 Team Rondo

Intervals:

2 min work + 1 min rest x 6 reps = 24 min

Setup:

3 teams of 6

(GK work on own)

Grid split into 1/3s -- 30x20 (wider than long)

Activity:

Only defending team can score -- 1 point for winning ball and playing back to central channel; 3 points for scoring in goal behind attackers (small goal with no GK)

Attacking team should be setup with a back 4 in U shape, #6 in middle and #8 higher.

Progression:

+ Opposite team can send in one player to play in central channel (midfielder)

Coaching Points:

~ Technical details: receive across body, pass to proper foot, open body to field

~ #4/5 creating angles of support

~ #6 finding pockets of space between defenders (move opposite of ball direction)

~ #2/3 maintaining width

Setup:

2/3 field split in half as shown

5v4 in each half of the field (mirrored)

Activity:

Ball start positions: goal kick, in GK hands, throw in

Attacking team tries to build out of back to score in 2 small gates (1 point).

Defending team tries to win ball and score in big goal (3 points).

Coaching Points:

~ Using inside/outside patterns to break lines (#4->#6->#2)

~ #1 supporting play

~ #1 playing longer passes to break first line of pressure

~ #6 moving away to take defender away, #8 checking into that space

~ Playing short and back to GK to force defenders to adjust

Setup:

2 teams setup as shown

2 small goals, plus a line about 2/3 up the field

Activity:

Ball starts: goal kick, in GK hands, throw ins, free kicks

Attacking team tries to build out of back to score:

A) Passing into small goals

B) Outside back (#3) dribbling across line

Coaching Points:

~ All previous points

~#7/11 timing of checks into internal spaces

~ Longer passes out of back to break 1st line of pressure

~ Maintaining depth and width with back 4

~ Switching play to get outside back in
