Rondo's (20 mins)

Practice Organisation:

*3 rondo squares

*1 defender in 2 of the 3 squares.

*Ball in each square.

1. Practice starts with: Defender tries to win the ball from the players on the outside, whoever gives the ball away must pick up the bib and go and chase the ball and win it from which ever square doesn't have a defender in.

Back Foot Receiving (20 mins)

Set up

The area is set up in a diamond.

Player passing and receive on their back foot around the diamond. Players must follow their pass.

Repeat going the opposite direction.

1v1 Progression - Coerver (20 mins)

Practice Organisation:

*20x20yd area marked out by 4 mini goals.

*Players split into equal teams each with a ball either end of area, as illustrated.

*1 x 5yd gate either side of mannequin.

*Practice starts with: first player dribbles towards mannequin, both players perform a right drag push and go to the right through the side gate.

*Both players finish in goal.

*As soon as players have shot next players go.

*Go both left and right using a variety of skill/tricks/feints.

*Practice is continuous.

Learning Objectives:

1. Accelerate away quickly.

2. Correct technique.

3. Use arm to keep body between ball and defender.

4. Safe side.

5. Timing of trick/skill/feint (distance from mannequin).

Defending Outnumbered (3v4) (30 mins)

Practice Organisation

*Area 40x30 yards set out in equal thirds with goals at each end.

*14 players (+2 GKs), with defenders out numbered 3v4 in each end third.

*Practice starts with Neutral players in middle third, serve ball into Attackers & support play from behind, without entering end third.

Objective of practice, Defenders play outnumbered to pvevent Attackers from scoring, gain possession and in to Neutral player to score one point.

Rotate roles of players.

Details

Distance between 3 defenders when being attacked by four opponents.

Communication, changing roles and working with GK as sweeper.

Deflecting attacks away from central goal scoring areas.

Balanced, controlled 1v1 defending skills.

Defenders identifying opportunity to pass or run with ball on gaining possession.

Key Coaching Points

1. Blocking shots.

2. Pressing man on ball and employing delaying tactics to avert attack.

3. Marking and covering
