Defensive Corner

Defensive Corner

One player is left forward as an outlet. Two players (in red) work in a semi-zonal capacity on the edge of the box. If a player needs picking up they mark, if not they defend the space. The nearest player will go and close the corner if the opposition play short. If the GK regains possession these players break quickly and are our outlets for a counter attack.

Nearest full back marks space on the edge of the 6 yard box. If the ball goes over them then they drop onto the post.

Strongest header of the ball stays central and does not mark. Their job is to come and win the ball.

Everyone else marks size for size.

Attacking Corner

One player blocks the GK and one player stands on the back post. 2 players stay back and 1 player starts deep on the side of the corner (orange). The remaining players split between the blue and red boxes.

ONE HAND UP FROM CORNER TAKER (Short corner)

The back post player runs to the front post and receives the ball, player on GK peels off. They then either set back to the corner taker to deliver, play directly to the orange player or the corner taker sets back to the orange player. On shaping up to deliver the blue and red players switch to attack the ball.

TWO HANDS UP FROM CORNER TAKER (Delivered Front Post)

Exactly the same movement but the back post player only runs to the front of the 6 yard box for a near post delivery. The orange player now runs to hold on the edge of the box. (This movement should draw our opponents out based on the short corner). More players are in the blue box and make a run to the front post.

BOUNCED BALL FROM THE CORNER TAKER (Penalty Spot/Back Post delivery).

Exactly the same as before but the orange player starts centrally on the edge of the box. More players are in the red box and they start more centrally and spin around the back to come in and attack at the penalty spot.
