Triangles Demonstration

In this session we will look to introduce the notion of "shape"

Because this age group is still centered on teaching players how to work in small groups we speak generally about shape and less about team shape. This is addressed, but triangles and diamonds for support are more highly focused upon in this level.

An example. We ask that our teams play 3-3-1 or 2-4-1 as we feel it best replicates the various roles moving forward. See above.

We need to emphasize how in the game there are a number of triangles and diamonds Here are triangles.

So we will need to use exercises that help to provide this context.

3v1 Corner Activity

This exercise is another variation of rondo, but the players must play in the corners. This creates triangles as their movement needs to get them to points that allow for a pass and create triangles.

This exercise should be performed in one minute rounds because the physical demands on the one defender are relatively great.

3v3 +1

In this game we will simply play 3v3 + 1 with a passing target to try to achieve. Generally 6 passes is the number. There are only 7 players playing at a time and so there will be 5 players resting who will need to be ready to come on because games will only last 2 minutes to encourage intensity in the games.

The 3v3 + 1 will force them to create and maintain diamonds to be successful.

three team possession - in 2s

This game will have two groups of 6 working (only one is pictured)

Two of the teams will work together to keep hold of the ball against the other team. By passing accurately and creating triangles.

Here it is red and blue vs black.

There ar two ways you can play this game the first is less difficult.

1) The team that is defending will defend for a set amount of time. usually betwen 1 and 2 minutes to encourage intensity.

2) Introduces a level of transition from attacking to defending and defending to attacking by making the game more fluid where if a team loses the ball they become defenders. This is decidedly more difficult as transition becomes important here.
