Tag

Organization:

No balls needed

2 Taggers  

Played in an open space or in a predetermined grid

Instructions:

1. Two blue players start out as the taggers looking to tag the orange players.

2. If a orange player is tagged he/she then grabs a (blue) pinnie and attempts to tag another players before time runs out.

3. Orange players scan link up in pairs of two and become safe from the tagger(s). If a third orange player joins the pair the player on the opposite side must leave and try to link up with another person.

4. Relating it to the theme: Taggers are zookeepers / dogcatchers

Coaching Points:

1. Head up - Look out for the taggers

2. Change in speed and direction

Progressions:

P1 - The two remaining taggers at the end of the game must perform a goofy move for the group. Example: Star jumps. => Encouraging them to move quickly throughout the game.

Zookeeper!

Organization:

30 x 30

Each player with a ball

2 different color pinnies on the side for progressions

Instructions:

1. The animals from Madagascar want to throw Marty (zebra in the movie) a birthday party. But the gates are locked and they can't get the food or gifts for the party.

2. The only way they can get what they need is by quietly sneaking around the grumpy zookeeper (coach). Players must try to make it to the other side without being caught by the zookeeper (coach).

3. If caught, he/she then loses the item they planned to bring back for the party.

4. Players can quietly creep behind the zookeeper when he/she is not looking. But if the zookeeper quickly turns around the players must place the sole of their foot on top of the ball. If they don't the zookeeper might steal it and then the player becomes a mini  zookeeper.

5. Play until all items are brought back.

Coaching Points:

1. Keep your head up

2. Take nice Ronaldo touches when you have space

3. Change in speed when zookeeper isn't looking

Progressions:

P1 - Add in pinnies as keys, attached to the back pocket of the coach, if a player steals a key when the coach isn't looking everyone gets to safely travel across and back with one item without being caught. Keys correspond to item: Blue pinnie - Blue cone = Cupcakes for the birthday party.

Hungry Hungry Hippo

Organization:

20 x 20 yard area circle of cones set up in the center, set up as shown

4x Pugg Goals or Cone Goals

Lots of soccer balls

Disc cones

Story/Description:

1.Did you know that Hippos eat soccer balls?

2.Four very hungry Hippos are waiting to be fed (pugg/ cone goals)

3.Players are split into groups and assigned a Hippo to feed

4.Players must run into the middle to collect a soccer ball from the pool

5.Dribble this as close as they can to the Hippo and kick the ball into its mouth

6.When all the soccer balls are gone each player must count to see how many soccer balls they have in their Hippo's mouth

Coaching Points:

1.Get the ball as close as you can before you make your kick into the Hippo's mouth

2.Head up to make sure you kick the ball when the Hippo has its mouth open. A coach may stand in the way of the (goal) mouth if your not looking up.

3.No hands when collecting the ball from the pool

Developments:

1.Set a time limit, Players now only have 1 minute to feed their Hippo

2. Goals get more narrow as the game goes

Frog Catcher

Organization:

25 x 25 grid; 5 x 5 box in the middle

8 balls in the 5 x 5 box

Instructions:

1. All the frogs (balls) are attempting to escape the pond (center area) and into the ocean (main area).

2. Frog catchers (players) have to chase all the frogs out in the ocean and bring them back to the pond before they drift out to sea.

3. The frogs are clever though, and are able to jump high out of the pond (coaches bounce the ball) and move really fast (rolling the ball).

4. One minute games. Players must try to keep at least two balls in pond. Once there is 1 ball left coach stops time and encourages to increase their group time by 15/30 seconds for the next round.

5. P1 - If the frogs roll too far out they may be snatched up by the alligators (red cones). Frog catchers must try to keep them from rolling to far toward the alligators, otherwise the game is over.

Coaching Points:

1. Change in speed - run fast to catch the frogs

2. Vision - Keep your eyes on the frogs so that they don't get away

3. Small / Messi touches - Keep the frog close to you as you dribble it back into the pond.

4. Ball Control - Place the frog back into the pond by putting your foot on top of it.

Progressions:

P1 - If the frogs roll too far out they may be snatched up by the alligators (red cones). Frog catchers must try to keep them from rolling to far toward the alligators, otherwise the game is over.

P2 - Increase the pace of balls being sent out of the box.
