Defending 2v2 Technique 1A (15 mins)

The drill starts with 2 teams of 4 players each on a pitch 60yx40y With a Goal on each side.

-2 players on each side of the pitch with opposite color.

-The ball is rolled from D1 player No 1 movement to A1 player The A1 player will dribble the ball accross the pitch and will pass to his team mate on the other side movement No2 and No3

-The player D2 as the player A1 touches the ball he will defend and try to recover the ball before pass is made to A2 player movement No4 this becomes a 1v1

When the ball has been recovered or the team in possession has scored the play is reversed and the opposite team will repeat the same movements

Key Points:

-Angled and speed of approached of player pressurizing the ball

-Slow down, be patient, don't get too tight as the defender approaches the attacker

-Appropriate pressure on the ball - don't dive in stay on your feet

- Body position to be the same angle as the angle of approach

-Body position= low, balanced, watch the ball. Shuffling feet movement

-Show outside to isolate opposition

-Head down

Progression:

-The defender starts by defending up to the half way line only

-Free the defender to defend all the area

-D1 player will make a recovery run as soon as A1 has crossed the first white line zone and this becomes 1v2

Defending 2v2 Technique 2A

PROGRESSION FROM PREVIOUS TECHNIQUE PRACTICE

-The ball is played from D1 movement No1 to A1, as the ball is played A1 will dribble and play with A2 try to score a goal on the opposition goal passing D2 movement No 2 and 3.

-As the A team attacke D2 will try to get the ball and not suffer a goal

Key Points:

-Angled and speed of approached of player pressurizing the ball

-Slow down, be patient, don't get too tight as the defender approaches the attacker

-Appropriate pressure on the ball - don't dive in stay on your feet

- Body position to be the same angle as the angle of approach

-Body position= low, balanced, watch the ball. Shuffling feet movement

-Maintain a balance bodyshape, Close him down or Drop

-Tracking and recovering runs

-Individual defending technique = close down quickly, slow down as the attacker receives, get low

-Timing

Progression:

-Start with 2v1 then let D1 drop back to the defensive side and create a 2v2

-Restrict the touches

-Create a 2v2 starting from opposite sides face to face

Defending 2v2 Skill Practice (15 mins)

-The play starts with 60x40yards area with 2 zones of 20y where there will be 2 different color teams the Blues will be 3 players as the attackers and the Reds outnumbered 2 players on 1 area.

-There is an inside area where there will be 1 player of each team

The ball starts from 1 side of the 20y box with the Blue team in possession they will dribble the ball inside the area and will try to pass the ball to the player in the inside area Movement 1 and 2

-When the ball is in the inside area with the Blue player will try to dribble the Defender in Red Movement 3 and pass the ball into the other 20y zone Movement 4

-The Red team are the Defenders and on each 20y box will try to recover the ball and not letting the Blue team pass the ball to the Inside area player

-The Red defender in the Inside area will work on the 1v1 situation and try to recover the ball or intercept the pass to the other 20y box

2 Teams Red attacking and Blue defending

-The ball starts with the Red team attacking one of the 2 goals on the opposite team.

Key Points:

-Communication; 1 player press, others cover and balance, angles of approach to manipulate attacking play; read clues(bad touch, bad pass, ball played behind, back turned to the game)

Keep moving, read the game, pressure on the ball
