Warm Up 1 - Dribbling (10 mins)

1) Dribbling - 10 mins

- Start out dribbling

- Isolate dribbling with outside of the foot

- Progress to using the bottom of the foot

- When coach says "freeze", player must stop ball with a different part of body each time i.e. knee, sit on ball, inside of foot. (P1)

- continue dribbling, players now change direction when coach says "turn" i.e. pull back, cruyff turn (P2)

Coaching Points

1. Close control of ball

2. Pick head up

3. Be creative with stops and turns

Warm Up 2 - Passing/Shielding (10 mins)

2) Passing and Shielding - 10 mins

- Each player finds a partner to pass and move with.

- When coach yells "Go", player with ball shields from partner without ball (defender) for 5 seconds (P1), then passing and moving continues

- When coach yells "Switch", player with ball, finds a new ball to shield, from partner without ball (defender) for 10 seconds (P2), then passing and moving continues

Coaching Points

1. Position body between defender and the ball

2. Side on

3. Reach out to create a point of contact with defender and find balance

4. Identify which area of foot to use to keep control of the ball i.e. outside, bottom...

Small-Sided - Sharks and Minnows (15 mins)

3) Sharks and Minnows - 15 mins (approx. 20 players per field)

- Minnows dribble around inside coned area (25x25, 3 fields)

- Sharks (2or3) try to steal ball from Minnows and kick it out

- If Minnows ball goes out, they must do 20 toe taps before dribbling back into coned area (P1)

- Minnows get 2 lives, then on the third time the ball goes out, the Minnow becomes a shark (P2)

- Play until only 2 minnows left

- Last 2 minnows become sharks in next round

Coaching points

1. Close ball control

2. Position body between ball and defender

3. Create point of contact (arm out) to Identify where defender is and balance

4. Be creative with ball movement i.e. turns, looking for space

Expanded - 1v1 Shielding (15 mins)

4) 1v1 Shielding and Turning to Score - (15 mins)

- Coach or player plays ball onto field (15x15)

- 1st player from each line runs after it to try and win ball

- Ball must travel past midline (blue) before player can go to goal

- Player with ball trys to shield and turn to shoot on or dribble into a goal

- Player with ball can score on either goal

- If defender wins ball they can shoot on goal also

- Players rotate line each time

- Have players keep track of individual score

- Quick games: if it takes to long or ball goes out, play ball in immediately for next 1v1

1. Get to the ball first

2. Position body between defender and ball

3. Arms out for balance and point of contact

4. creative with ball movement, turns and taking space

5) Scrimmage - 25 mins

- 6 fields, 6v6 or 7v7

Coaching Points

1. Maintain control of ball (part of foot to use)

2. Position of body relative to pressure

3. Arm out for balance and point of contact

4. Creative movement with ball and body (turns and passing)
