Technical warm up (20 mins)

Organization: 2 patterns of runs to create crossing opportunity.

1. If line is blocked. Striker must drop in the space to receive the ball from fullback. Combine with CM and fullback overlaps for the cross.

2. When the line is open. Ball must be played down the line. then wall paas with the striker to overlap the cone for the cross.

1-2 touch play. Speed of the execution and recognizing optins to overlap and when to support underneath.

SSG 2v2 flank play (15 mins)

Organization: in the wide area 15 by 30 m - 2 v 1 + 1 goalkeeper - 2 v 2 + goalkeeper flank play attacking.

Ball is played by one of the defenders 1 inside to another attacker 2 and she/he dribbles inside while the defender overlaps the cone and sprints to defend. Striker from other side sprints inside the middle zone to connect the cross from 2.

Coaching Points:

speed of play;

quality of the cross;

cut the ball inside against the defenders traffic.

one time finish.

recognize where to go: front post when defender cannot block the cros or drop back when striker cuts inside.

Progression: add second striker and second defender.

SSG 3v2 flank play (15 mins)

Organization: in the wide area 15 by 30 m. Have 2 zones on both sides.

Ball is played by one of the defenders 1 inside to another attacker 2 and she/he dribbles inside while the defender overlaps the cone and sprints to defend. Striker 3 checks out and in to combine with 2, while defender 5 sprints from the goal line to defend against 2 and 3.

Striker 4 from other side sprints inside the middle zone to support 2 and 3 and then connect the cross from wide area. (optional one touch finish)

Coaching Points:

- the same as before;

- recognize when to cross earlier when to overlap;

- combine with 4 if requitred.

ESSG 7 v 5(6)+1 (30 mins)

Orginization: 1/2 of the field ( 1/3 also possible).

Attacking group is organized 2-3-2 defending group organized in 1-3-2(3). Defenders join the attack only if the ball enters their zones - must drop to the line if the ball goes to the other side. LB in zone L, RB in zone R.

2 red players can go in the wide are and only one defender.

 

Play starts with the defender(goalkeeper) playing long ball to one of the attacking midfield players. Defenders sprint outside penalty box to apply pressure. Strikers must use numerical advantage to create opportunity to play the ball wide to deliver a cross. If ball scored from the cross - 3 points, if score centarally - 1 point. If white score in the small goal - 2 points.

 

Offside line is top of the penalty box. Assistant coach is acting as a lineman to judge offside. Defenders if/when win the ball can score the ball into one of the 2 small nets. 

Progression: add 1 extra midfield player to play 1-4-2.  

Coaching Points: use wall pass, overlapping runs, diagonal runs, third man play to utilize numerical advantage to play in wide area.

ESSA 7v5 (Variation) (30 mins)

Organization: 2/3  of the field. 7 v 5. (optional 1/2 )

2 extra red players perform roles of the targets for whites and servers. One more server on the other side of the field could be a goalkeeper.

Red must score by playing the ball in to the end zone between flags on outside and cross after - 3 points, dribbling inside 1 point. White team needs to play the ball between flags/cones to target players 2 points.

2 red players can go into wide zone and 1 white player can defend.

Progression:

Allow one white player to go into wide zone to defend.

Award extra points for red team if #2 or #3 cross the ball from overlapping.

Add more players depends on the level of success. 

Coaching Points: Width, depth, mobility and penetration.
