MDG (20 mins)

Set-up

Mark out area as shown, with two channels for the FB's.

Place two servers either end, who act as CB & #9.

Two teams of three is central area, set up with two CM & #10.

Practice begins with Server CB plays ball into a CM.

Can the attacking team play opposite server (#9) as quickly as possible.

The ball must be played into one of the FB's before it is played to the #9

Once ball is played to opposite server (#9) play continues the opposite way.

Key Factors

- Do the team in possession make full use of the area to create space.

- Is there player rotation in order to create areas of space to recieve the ball in.

- Do players look to recieve on there back foot, or, in there stride in order to play forward early

- Players to be aware of there positioning as not to prevent a passing line into #9, can the #10 make space for the FB to play direct to #9.

- Do attackers use correct pass? Lofted / driven / into space.

Progressions

The defending FB can close down attacking FB.

Opposite FB to come around tight to CB (server), game specific.

Attacking team dont have to use FB's and must look to get the ball to #9 as quickly as possible.

Remove channels for FB's

SSG (25 mins)

Set - up

9v9

orange team play a gk-3-2-1-1

blue team play a gk-3-2-1-1

If blue team win possession in the start of the game, can they play long to there striker?

Play starts from Orange GK playing out from the back, either to FB or CM

Key Factors

- Can the FB's split wide to allow space for the CM to drop in and recieve the ball from the GK. Does he use his body position to recieve on his back foot to play forward early.

- Do individuals make space to recieve the ball.

- Do FB's make themselves available to recieve off CM, type of pass? In to feet, space? Does opposite FB come tight to CB

- Do the CM's look to support the attack.

- Is it possible to play the #9 early? If he drops does the #10 make a run in behind, or looks for it to be layed off? Can the FB make a run in behind opposition defence?

- If the ball cannot be played forward, encourage the attacking team to play backwards and look to switch play? Does the opposite FB look to go wide early to allow the switch?

- Player rotation and angles & distance of support are important to create passing options.
