The course is made up of six pairs of parallel cones, approximately 6 yards apart. Two players start at

the same time from the first pair of cones, jog along the inside of the cones and do the various exercises on the way. After the last cone, they run back along the outside. On the way back, speed

can be increased progressively as players warm up.

1. Jog through 5 times

2. Hip out (groin movement) - 2 sets

3. Hip in (groin movement) - 2 sets

4. Circle partner - 2 sets

5. Jumping with shoulder contact - 2 sets

6. Quick forward and backwards sprints - 2 sets

Part 2

1. Plank - 3 sets X 20s

2. SIde Plank - 3 sets X 20s

Part 3

Passing & Opening Up + 4 v 2 (20 mins)

Set up:

Groups of 4 or 5 players. Grids are 10 x 10 (to be adjusted by coach based on player's abilities). Each player has a red and yellow cone.

How it Works:

Players are passing around the grid opening up as they receive. They are trying to play 2 touches. Perform right/left side. If a group of 5 then they follow their pass.

Competition: After practicing, teams will try to connect as many consective passes as possible in 45 seconds and keep their highest score. (If they take an extra touch, hit the cone or pass through the grid, or don't open up then they restart count).

Progression 1: Players will now perform same opening up sequence but now call out the cone colour of their next target pass before receiving (top left of picture).

Competition from above can be repeated with cone check.

Progression 2: Passing sequence per bottom right of picture. After player makes layoff pass, they will move in to receive in middle of grid before playing diagonal pass. Player playing across uses 2 touches, while player laying off uses 1 touch (can start with 2 touch if needed).

If players are successful, then entire play can move to 1 touch. Another progression is to include cone check before making layoff.

Keys:

1. Receivers are on their toes

2. Receivers open up with 1st touch to set up pass (receiving with the middle of their foot, not their toes- i.e. ball isn't spinning). If ball stuck under, then stutter step to get power for pass.

3. Passes are made using middle of foot with straight follow through (no spin on pass)

4. Check shoulder as the ball is about to be played.

5. Timing of support runs (delay movement if diagonal pass is 2 touch).

4 v 2 Monkey In The Middle (20 mins)

Set up:

Groups of 4 or 5 in a 10 x 10 grid (grid size adjusted based on needs).

How It Works:

Players are set up like in a 4 v 2 or 5 v 2 monkey in the middle game BUT there are no defenders. As per top left of picture. The focus is on constant movement and support habits. Even the far support should be in a habit of creating an angle for the pass.

Players will use anywhere from 1-3 touches to move the ball around at a HIGH tempo. 40-45 second rounds (2-4 rounds). Players are encouraged to mix it up: fakes, one touch passing, two touch passing. Rest can range from length of round or longer.

Players movement is critical.

An incentive for high intensity, everytime the movement isn't of maximum effort (e.g. support players don't move to support) a point is recorded which translates to burpees.

Keys:

1. Immediate side support or support after making pass

2. Fakes realistic to the game

3. One touch/2 touch passing

4. Communication - verbal/non verbal

Progression 1:

Combine groups to make 4 v 2 or 5 v 2. Rotation in middle defenders. In bottom right of picture.

Restrict touches as needed (3 touch, 2 touch).

Progression 2:

Before receiving the ball, player has to call out cone colour of coach walking around the grid.

Keys:

Same as above

4. Last second analysis (i.e. as player is about to make pass, need to read defenders movements on whether to continue with that option, fake, or play opposite way)

5. When player is too obvious in a playing option (e.g. as ball is coming they open up their body to where they are passing), to use that option as a fake.

Possession End Line Game (20 mins)

Set Up:

25-30 x 15 grid (adjust to your group). 6 v 6 in the middle with 2 side support on each side. Ideally, 4 v 4 with 4 with the option of (1 neutral) is best. If players have difficulty then 5 v 5 with 1 or 2 inside neutrals can be used to make the game successful.

How it Works:

Each team is trying to score by stopping the ball on the line. Teams are trying to score on the same goal throughout (i.e. they DO not change direction).

Teams can use their side support who have 2 touches with their own designated support areas.

3-4 Minute Games then rotate. Options are King's court or round robin.

Progression Options:

- Limit touches

- Must pass to each side before scoring

Final Progression:

Call out cone colour before receiving

Keys (General: Depth, Width, Improvisation, Mobility, Penetration):

1. Play forward when possible.

2. Movement after playing side support (to get open again).

3. Shoulder check before receiving

4. Continuing forward runs as ball is being played.
