SAQ Warm Up

Set up like above. Players split into two groups.

The first player performs high knees (1 foot in each gap) through the cones, once they get to the blue cone they have to do 5 sideways jumps (feet together jumping sideways over the cone), sprint to the tall cone and then sprint back to the back of the line and then repeat.

Progressions:

- Put a soccer ball by the blue cone and players have to dribble it to the tall cone and back to the blue cone and then sprint to the back of the line.

- Players waiting perform toe taps/side to sides with a ball

Passing Technical Practice (20 mins)

Passing Technical Practice

Set up like above, one group of 2 per channel, one ball between 2.

Coaching Points:

- Players are on their toes

- First touch played in front using the inside

- Pass the ball using the inside

- Always communicate with your partner

- Player should not be ahead of the ball

Number above the channel signafies the progressions.

1) Players start as shown in the channel 1. They move up together passing the ball to each other till they reach the top of their channel. The players are passing the ball ahead of their partner for them to move onto, we are looking for one touch to control, one touch to pass.

2) Players start as shown in channel 2. The player with the ball is moving forwards and passing it to their partner who is moving backwards, once the players get to the top of the channel they come down and swap roles. Once again this practice is two touch, one to control, one to pass.

3) The same set up and direction as in channel 1 but players now perform a one touch pass ahead of their partner.

4) The same set up and direction as in channel 2 but players now perform a one touch pass to their partner.

Players perform the exercises for 5 minutes each.

Passing Opposed Practice (15 mins)

Passing Opposed Practice

Set up like above, 4 groups of 3, one ball between each group.

Players are building on the coaching points made in the technical passing practice.

As it is opposed each player from each group has a number, once their number is called out they switch grids as shown by the arrows and try and get the ball from the other team. Encourage players to get into a space where the player with the ball is not going to risk possession. The receiving player should bot be behind the defender, instead to the left/right of the player with the ball.

Play for 15 minutes.
