Follow your pass

Organization: 1. 20 x 20 yard area divided into 4 10 x 10

yard areas, set up as shown 2. Minimum of 5 players 3. 1 ball

Instructions: 1. Each group compete in a relay race around the squares

2. The ball is passed to next square in clockwise direction

3. Players follow their pass

4. The race stops when players are back to the square they started in

5. If ball leaves any square, the team must start over

6. Set up multiple areas so that groups are able to compete

Coaching Points: 1. Accuracy of pass 2. Weight of pass 3. Give the ball direction with 1st touch

4. Speed of play

Progressions: Have two teams playing in the same space so that players must pass around traffic

Organization: 1. 40 x 40 yard area divided into 4 – 10 x10

yard squares, set up as shown

2. 4 teams, 1 per square 3. 1 ball per team

Instructions: 1. Each player in a team is given a number 1 to 4

2. Teams pass their ball inside their assigned square

3. The Coach calls out a number that player must move to the next square (clockwise) to become a defender – 3v1 4. The team that can possess their ball the longest wins the point 5. The first team to five points is the winner

Coaching Points: 1. Accuracy of pass 2. Weight of pass

3. Movement to create passing angles 4. Combinations with 1 and 2 touches

5. Using 1st touch to move away from pressure

4v2

Organization: 1. Two 20 x 30 yard areas as shown 2. Two teams of 6 players 3. Lots of soccer balls with coach

Instructions: 1. The Coach passes a ball into each area, teams send two players into opposing half to play 4 v 2

2. Defending players attempt to steal ball and return it to their own area

3. If successful, play 6 v 2 with 2 soccer balls for as long as possible

4. Attacking team scores points for every pass completed when both soccer balls are in their own area

Coaching Points: 1. Speed of play

2. Importance of using 1st touch to move away from pressure

3. Keep the ball moving

4. Awareness of space

5. Combination play to keep defenders moving and unbalanced

End Zone Soccer

Organization: 1. 40x40 with two 10y end zones 2. 6v6

Instructions: 1. Point is scored when pass is made from the field, and received by teammate in end zone.

Coaching Points: Weight of pass - Accuracy of pass -strike center of the ball to keep ball on the ground and receivable for teammate.

Conditioned Game II

Organization

45x50 area setup as shown

45x20 end zone marked with cones (finishing zone)

12 players (5 defenders, 5 attackers & 2 goalkeepers)

1 ball (additional around outside)

Activity

- Two teams RED & BLUE free play with normal soccer rules

- After 5-10mins apply the followig conditions:

1. Look for a 1 touch finsh as ball enters finshing zone

2. Look for 1v1 situation leadig to shoot at goal (1 defender can drop into finishing zone)

3. Looktoplay a killer pass, leading to an attempt at goal (attacker runs onto through pass in finishing zone)

Progressions

1. Attacking team has maximum pass count before creating attemt on goal (5 passes)

2. Limt players to two/three touch maximum

Coaching Points

- Angle of approach off center

- Head down at the point of contact

- Non-kicking foot placed to side, slightly behind the ball

- Ankle locked, toedown

- Various Finishng technques - how is the goalkeeper positioned?
