Low backhand

Essence:

Playing dangerous balls into the circle from the left side of the field.

Structure:

Player A busts down the line a pace, lifting the ball over the beams and then plays a low backhand on the run into the circle.

Player B does whatever necessary to deflect the ball into the goals.

Players rotate between the two stations A and B.

Pointers:

- Players must be challenged to play the backhand on the move.

- Ensure that the arc of their swing is not from high to low but starts low behind the ball and swings through the ball.

- Encourage players to scan after they have passed the last beam, to improve their passing accuracy.

Variation:

1) For younger players the beams can be removed and speed reduced to walking.

2) A tackle back defender can be used to put pressure on the backhand pass from Player A.

3) Player B can be marked by a defender putting pressure on the accuracy and quality of the backhand pass from Player A.
