Warm Up (15 mins)

Players split into pairs, 1 serving, 1 working (45 secs each on the following);

1. Ground passes - left foot, right foot.

2. Low volleys - inside of both feet (serve knee high & outside the body line).

3. High thigh passes - both sides (serve waist high and outside the body line - play the ball with the thigh).

4. Chest to half-volley - ball should be returned to server along the floor.

5. 2 headers - first without a jump, server catches, worker runs in taps the ball and backs off for a jump header).

Area 40x20 divided as shown.

How to Play

Reds try to keep possession 6 v 3. If the Blues win the ball, they attempt to switch to their waiting team mates. They follow the ball and 3 Reds become the defenders. If the Blues can force the Reds to play the ball out, play restarts with the coach passing into the Blue half.

If the Reds can keep the ball for 10 passes a 4th Blue can go in to help.

Coaching Points

Big team - good passing angles and support play.

Small team - try to pressure a poor pass or touch. Try to make play predictable. Communicate.

Pressing & Transition 2 (15 mins)

Organisation

Score into a mini-goal if no GK available.

Reds play from left to right.

All players are locked into these areas except when the midfield play into the striker, 2 MF players can go in to support.

The ball must go through the thirds.

Coaching Points

Attacking - patience in possession if there is no forward pass. MF rotation to get on the ball. Fast passes into the striker when it's on & fast transition to attacking third.

Defending - forward player try to make play predictable. Press hard in midfield to try to win the ball back. Defensive third, try to hold up the striker, be alert to runners, BLOCK SHOTS!

Progressions

Allow defenders to pass from back to front.
