Diagonal Dribbling with Moves (35 mins)

Setup:

Groups are divided into 3 groups and each group gets 2 set of cones (Red, Yellow). Each subgroup of 5 has one set of cones (5 players per set).

How It Works:

Players touch step dribble from cone to cone (while doing a move chosen by coaches). Players can start when the player in front of them is 2 cones ahead.

Drill Sequence:

A. Practice Moves

B. Relay races performing moves (Player in line can go after the player ahead finishes 2nd cone). First team sitting down wins.

Keys:

1. Ensure players are touching ball every step (not just letting the ball run)

2. Players are switching feet between cones (touch step dribbling with both feet)

3. Distance, players are performing moves before cones.

Moves & Feints:

Feel free to use the following move/feints, if you would like to add of adjust these or show you're on, feel free to.

Moves/Changing Direction

1.Outside Cut

2. Scissor

3. Double Scissor

4. Touch-Step Switch

5. L

6. Stop and go

7. Maradona

Move Details

***The overarching point of focus is perfecting the technique to make it as quick and efficient as possible with little to no error each and every repetition***

Outside Cut: Dribble on forward angle, cut outside and backwards with 1st touch, 2nd touch should cut behind and little forward and 3rd touch should take the player forward again. Body has to bent the entire time and the ball should move in a little circle when being cut.

Scissor:

Touch step with back bent over ball, Scissor around ball with cleats close to ground, knees shouldn't be straight, Drop shoulder on leg that is scissoring, Take out wide with opposite foot, Accelerate

Double Scissor: Same as above but start move earlier, keep moving forward as you do both scissors to not lose speed

Touch-Step Switch: Touch step dribbling with left on angle towards left side, Pull ball with toes of left foot underneath body, Take out ball with right foot towards right outside at same time stiff arming defender, Dribble away with far right foot.

Stop and Go: Dribble forward with right foot (imagine defender is beside running after player),Dribble stops ball with right foot and then steps past ball while turning hips, Hits ball with inside left foot forward in same initial direction

Maradona: Dribble on an angle towards defender, Reach and pull ball behind with bottom toes with close foot to defender (while turning/hopping), Pull ball with other foot diagonally forward using toe part

1 v 3 Dirbbling Game (20 mins)

Setup:

In groups of 4 or 5. Four gates that are 4-5 yards apart. are set-up. Gates are across from each other. The space between the gates is room for the attacker to dribble back into the grid. Balls are positioned in between the gates, outside the grid.

How It Works:

Player with ball is trying to dribble through as many gates as possible in 45 seconds, each time is 1 point. There are 4 gates and 3 defenders so there is always an open gate.

The attacker always has to come from between the gates and not through it when coming back in. Defenders have to transition quickly to stop easy points.

Allow players multiple tries.

Defender Restrictions:

Defenders cannot kick the ball away from the attacker in the middle of the grid or as they are dribbling into the grid. Defenders can only kick the ball when the attacker is within 1 yard of a gate. (Imagine a circular line that goes around the inside the grid, 1 yard inside the gates- defenders can kick the ball once the attacker goes outside of the circle.)

Keys:

1. 1st touch into space

2. Dribble with far foot

3. Use fakes in covered direction to open up more space. (You will see players trying to score in guarded gates).

4. Change of direction/change of pace.

5. Keep eye on ball and defender

6. Confidence in your move/ability

SSG in Tight Areas (15 mins)

Set up:

Grid is 15-20 X 20-25. 4 v 4

Can set up a king's court.

Balls can sit with coach so they can get back into play quickly.

How it Works:

Players are matched up, man to man and can only steal the ball off each other. The team in possession has to connect 3 passes before they can go and score. This will crate many 1 v 1 situations. Once the 3 passes is attained then the attacking team is free to score. We will encourage the attackers to take the defender on at this point since they can score.

Keys (General: Dispersal, Support (Width/Depth), Penetration, Mobility/Movement, Individualism, Surprise):

1. 1st touch into space

2. Dribble with far foot

3. Use fakes in covered direction to open up more space.

4. Change of direction/change of pace.

5. Keep eye on ball and defender

6. Confidence in your move/ability

Passer Keys:

1. Play to far foot, a spot only teammate can get the ball.

2. Play before teammate gets to the space.
