3v1 Keep Away (10 mins)

3v1 Keep Away Warm-up: Grid: 10 x 10 Yards. GU9&GU10: 15x10 yards

Progression:

1) GU9&GU10: Standard keep away. # player's 1-4. Player one has to win the ball 3 times before they can go out. Then rotate in numerical order. Have one full rotation go before introducing coaching points.

2) Introduce, calling name of player or else have to go in and perform 3 burpees. Why this rule?

Why? Perfect passing & receiving technique with pressure, movement off the ball and supporting angles.

3) 3v1 Keep away with transition. GU9&GU10 can progress to that.

-First to ten points win.

-Offensive team scores by completing 5 passes. (olders). 3 for youngers.

-Defender scores by intercepting the ball, ball leaving the area, offensive team not calling name of person they are passing to (all 1 point)

-Defender can also score by dribbling out of on of the sides to score 2 points.

Progression: 2 touch max.

Coaching Points: Offensive players must always ***receive ball across body with hips open to the field (when is the only time not to? if defender is on you, what can you do?) What is your response when you lose the ball? Need to close down immediately and win ball back and try to keep possession. What should supporting players be doing? No one should ever be standing. Constant adjustments in their movements.

*** needs to be stressed every session, whenever we don't see it happening, we need to address it. Building block of TIC (Technical Inisght Communication).

Controlling and Passing the ball when being marked

10x10 grid; 4 players

- 2 on outside (directly opposite each other) and 2 in the middle

- for the two in the middle: one is on offense one is on defense

- offensive player scores a point when they receive form one side and successfully pass to the other side.

- defender gets a point if they win the ball and pass it to the other side.

Coaching Points: Cues to pass and receive the ball? (visual agreements) how do players get away from their marker?

4v4+4 Combination Game (15 mins)

4v4+4 Combination Game: 20x20 or (25-30 X 25-30 for youngers)

Rules

- 3 teams of 4. (1 team of 4 plays 3v1 keep away) One team is on the oustide as neutrals with one touch restriction. Two teams in the middle playing possession.

- Any wall-pass or 3rd man combination counts as a point.

- Winner stays on

- 4 minute games

- Losing team has fitness

Progression:

i. three touch

ii. two touch

iii. one touch

Coaching Points:

1) Players on outside actively moving

2) I would rather you dribble at opponent than laterally

3) As you see defender approaching you, play it before she closes you down.

4) There's always a better option with movement

5) If you don't have a combination and you can't face up, lay it back and spin off and support target on the other side.

6) Receive with hips open to field whenever possible

7) Optional*: outside players can't play it back to same player unless it's a wall-pass

Arsenal Shooting Drill

Rules

- 5 minutes

- score 10 goals in 5 min or have fitness.

1) A > B > A > C. C performs 1v1 move on cone. Rotation is the same

2) " on opposite side

3) A > B > A > C (wall pass with B)

Coaching Points: What can you do to make it more realistic? How can we speed things up? Are we standing or checking away and then checking to? Are we crowding the space? What are our cues to play first time or two touches?

8v8 Arsenal Way (30 mins)

8v8 Arsenal Way: 3-3-2

Game # 1: Only way to go forward is to dribble or off of combination play. Target can only play it first time - if not it's a turnover.

Coaching Points:

1) Move immediately for support after played forwards

2) Every player has had opportunites to go forwrards, but all players have chosen to go backwards

3) GK if you have trouble getting out of the back, just bang a couple forwards

4) Passing backwards doesn't solve problem

5) Combination - if someone plays it forwards

6) Don't cut the ball back - every 1/2 chance that you have take it - don't look to possess - (carve the defender) beat the defender and shoot

Progression:

Game # 2 : Same Rules as Game #1 but take 2 players off and add 2 neutrals - search for the seams for combination play

Game #2 again:

Coaching Point: 1) Neutrals should stagger, one should stay higher than the other - look to combine with each other. 2)Don't pass up opportunity to shoot - carve her and go. 3) Run at the defender to commit than play

Game #3: Every pass had to go forwards - except combination pass which can be set.

Coaching Point: 1) Dribble Backwards to play forwards. 2) Target player has to find seam so that the ball can be played forwards.

Game #4: Add one more player to each team. One team has only 6 seconds to shoot. The other team's rule is that every pass must be forwards, you ar eallowed one back pass per possession, but i has to have been played forwards 1st time.

Coaching Point: 1) only go backwards if there is no pressure on the receiving player - set them perfectly for a forward pass. 2) back pass has to be played on the foot that the player is (right footed player should receive on her right)

Game #5: Change objectives for each team.

Game #6: Free play: GK - 2-1-3-1
