Warm Up (15 mins)

Organization:

20 x 15 space

Instructions:

- Players each partner up (or a group of three if odd)

- Players must dribble out to the other side and do an inside cut

- Vary the turns every 2 min, stopping at least once to breakdown the move

- Player passes ball to teammate and replaces teammate as they dribble out

- Make it a competition after a few minutes

Coaching Points:

Identification of the space

Protecting the ball while dribbling

Step to the side of the ball with the non kicking foot

Pivot on non kicking foot

Cut the ball back with the inside of the opposite foot

Progressions:

Integrate dynamic stretches between rounds (i.e. high knees, high skips, butt kicks, etc.)

Main Theme (20 mins)

Organization:

20x15 space

Instructions:

- One or two marble kings have ball in the hand.

- Every other player is trying to avoid the marble kings and keep their ball from being hit

- Marble kings try to hit ball by throwing it at the other players balls

- If ball gets struck, player becomes marble king

Coaching Points:

Protecting the ball while dribbling

Use of arms to feel the defender

Step to the side of the ball with the non kicking foot

Pivot on that foot

Cut the ball back with the inside of the opposite foot

Use of body to fake

Decision whether to keep going forward or turn based on pressure and space

Main Theme #2 (20 mins)

Organizaion:

20x15 space

Even split players into two teams

Instructions:

- Defending player (white) dribbles half way into zone then passes to attacker (blue)

- Attacker dribbles and tries to score in either goal

- Defender tries to win the ball and score in either goal

- Switch sides after every round

Progressions:

- Allow them to go 2 v 2

- Shorten the distance that the defender passes from so the attacker must control it

Coaching Points:

Protecting the ball while dribbling

Use of arms to feel the defender

Step to the side of the ball with the non kicking foot

Pivot on that foot

Cut the ball back with the inside of the opposite foot

Use of body to fake

Decision whether to keep going forward or turn based on pressure and space

Conditioned Game (25 mins)

Organization:

Normal Game (4 v 4)

Instructions:

Adjust numbers to be overloaded/underloaded (4 v 5 or 3 v 4)

Coaching Points:

Head up to find space

Recognize moments when to turn
