Description

Passing practices designed to develop the attacking play of a 7aside team based on a 1-2-3-1 formation. The practices can be tailored for any combination and you can add goals to each option if you wish.

Building

Option 1 (area size can be varied)

Ball is passed from Goalkeeper (GK) to Right Defence (RD) to Centre Midfield (CM) to Right Midfield (RM) to Centre Forward (CF) Once the CF receives the ball they become the GK and the practice continues down the opposite side.

Start with 2 footballs then progress to 4 for an advanced group with the footballs starting with both GKs and both CMs (make sure you double up where the footballs start) 12 players minimum for4 balls.

Rotation

Always follow your pass (when 4 balls are in play the movement must be very quick)

Flip practice half way through GK,LD,CM,LM,CF

Coaching Points

- Position specific movement building up to 1st time passes from RD,CM,RM

- Weight timing and accuracy of each pass dictated by movement and body position of the receiving player

- Scanning before receiving and eye contact made before passing

- Body position when receiving (endevour to receive open bodied)

Switching Play

Option 2 - Switch of Play

Ball is passed from GK to RD to CM to LM to CF. Once the CF receives the ball they become the GK and the ball is passed from GK to LD to CM to RM to CF.

Start with 2 footballs then progress to 4 for an advanced group with the footballs starting with both GKs and both CMs (make sure you double up where the footballs start) 12 players minimum for 4 balls.

Rotation

Always follow your pass (when 4 balls are in play the movement must be very quick)

Flip practice half way through so that the switch is going the opposite way.

- Position specific movement building up to 1st time passes from RD/LD & RM/LM

- Weight timing and accuracy of each pass dictated by movement and body position of the receiving player

- Scanning before receiving and eye contact made before passing

- Body position when receiving (endevour to receive open bodied)

Releasing FB

Option 3 (releasing the FB)

Ball is passed from GK to CM to RD to RM to CF. Once the CF receives the ball they become the GK and the practice continues down the opposite side. The key to this option is both RDs dropping short to create space in behind.

Start with 2 footballs then progress to 4 for an advanced group with the footballs starting with both GKs and both RDs (make sure you double up where the footballs start) 12 players minimum for 4 balls.

Rotation

Always follow your pass (when 4 balls are in play the movement must be very quick)

Flip practice half way through GK,CM, LD,LM,CF

7v3

Free Play - 7v3 (4v1s) (4v2s) 1 ball

The greens try to move the ball from end to end avoiding the yellow defenders. The greens can use any of the options worked on previously as well as any patterns they create themselves.

There can be a maximum of 2 defenders on 1 side at any time

The CM works to link both sides.

Rotation

The players play in the same position for 1 mnute then everyone moves on one place.

Over time progress to players rotating positions as part of open play.

- Patience in build up (chosing the right time to move defenders and the right time to play forward)

7v5

7v5 Full 7s pitch

The ball always starts with the green teams GK. They play to a finish each time using any combination. If the yellows win the ball they receive a point for finding the player marked 1 or getting a shot on target. This will encourage the greens to transition from attack to defence.

Rotation

Rotate positions and defenders every few minutes

Progress to full 7 v 7 once the players have mastered 7v 5
