Warm-Up

Organization:

-7x7 grids

Instructions:

-3v1 in two grids, 3v0 in the third grid.

-Teams playing keepaway, if a player loses the ball, he then runs to defend in the grid that is 3v0

Game Situation 1v1

Organization:

-Field size adjusted as needed, organized as shown

Instructions:

-Players passing back and forth to each other 3-4 times with the third player applying light pressure from behind.

- After a couple passes, the player turns either right or left with the ball, dribbles through the gate, and goes to goal.

- The player at the bottom passing the ball then runs through the opposite gate and becomes a recovery defender

Coaching Points:

- Sharp, quick turn (high-low with technique)

- After the turn, touch taking us towards goal rather than away from it

- Quick movement out of turn to get in on goal and behind defender to finish 1v1

- Defender quick to recover and attempt to close down attacker before they can finish on goal

Game Situation 1v1

Organization:

Instructions:

- Players passing back and forth through the cones

- After a couple of passes, the player with his back to goal can turn and go to goal with the other player becoming the recovery defender, OR:

- The player facing the goal can receive the ball and go 1v1 with the defender towards goal.

Coaching Points:

- Sharp, quick turn (high-low with technique)

- After the turn, touch taking us towards goal rather than away from it

- Quick movement out of turn to get in on goal and behind defender to finish 1v1

- When facing defender, quick movement to create some space to shoot on goal

- Defender quick to recover and attempt to close down attacker before they can finish on goal

- When facing attacker, where to force and how to press in and around the box

- Two players enter the middle zone, one with a ball and one as a defender.

- Inside the zone, the defender cannot win the ball, he is a passive defender until the attacker leaves to go to goal

- The attacker works on feints and misdirection before leaving the zone to go to finish on goal

Game Situation 2v1

Organization:

-Field size adjusted as needed, organized as shown

Instructions:

- Player passing back and forth with the middle red player.

- After several passes, the middle red attacker moves to one side with the defender following him, and the third attacker moves to the opposite side to receive the ball

- Defender now chases the attacker as he goes to finish on goal.

- Can progress to a 2v1 situation

Coaching Points:

- Quick movement into a passing lane and third attacker moving opposite of the player to create an option for penetration

- Sharp, quick turn (high-low with technique)

- After the turn, touch taking us towards goal rather than away from it

- Quick movement out of turn to get in on goal and behind defender to finish 1v1

Attack Waves 2v1

Organization:

-Field size adjusted as needed, organized as shown

Instructions:

-Keeper plays the ball out to the opposing team and they play 2v1 to goal.

- If the defender wins the ball and scores, 3 points. 1 point for a goal scored by the attacking 2.

- The attacking and defending teams rotate as the other keeper then plays the ball out to start the activity again

Coaching Points:

- Attackers taking the space forward quickly, dribbling when they can

- Only passing when they need to and can penetrate, no passing just for the sake of passing

- Quick attacking with a focus on goal, not trying to maintain possession but being direct in attacking the goal when numbers up
