Week 7: Passing with a Friend (10 mins)

Focus: Passing and Receiving

Instructions: Passing between mom/dad/guardian/sibling and the player. Pass back and forth. Use the space of the whole grid. This allows for movement and creativity.

Coaching Points: Encourage movement, do not tell them what part of their foot to use (they are allowed to use their toes), eye on ball, head up, try to look where you are passing, and accuracy.

Additional Notes: For U6, have them pass with a teammate. If they do not want to, they can use their mom and dad).

Week 8: Topple me Coconuts (10 mins)

Focus: Passing and Receiving

Instructions: Each player gets a player as their partner. Have the players line up across from each other.

Place balls on top of cones like coconuts. Ask players to alternate making passes and have them try to knock the ball off the cone in front of them (beside their partner). If a player is successful, they can go and retrieve both balls and bring them back to their side.

Coaching Points: Encourage celebrations, passing, teamwork, and have fun!

Additional Notes: For U4, start with rolling the ball across a smaller distance.

Week 9: Maze Runner (10 mins)

Focus: Shooting

Instructions: Set up your grid so that there are two lines of cones facing a net. Have one line on the left side and one line on the right side. Team A goes to one line. Team B goes to the other line. 1 player from each team will dribble through the cones and shot on net with NO goalkeeper.

Coaching Points: Close control, accuracy in shot, encourage celebrations, and have fun!

Additional Notes: For U4, start without ball, have them run through the cones, and have a ball ready in front of the net for them to shoot. After a couple of times, progress to the instructions listed above.

Week 10: Yo-Yo! (10 mins)

Focus: Shooting

Instructions: Have the grid set up the way you would have it normally. One coach of a team stands in front of one net, and the other coach stands in front of the other net. Coaches are in the middle facing the net and their players. Their players are beside one of the nets with balls. Players have to pass their coach the ball, run around their coach, and then the coach passes it/lays it off to them. Players shoot on net.

Coaching Points: Encourage celebrations, accuracy, let them shoot with any part of foot and have fun!

Additional Notes: Have a parent volunteer to stand beside the net with the players to tell them when to pass the ball to their coach. Also, have players switch the side of the net they are on about halfway through the activity so they run a different way and shoot on the other side.

Week 11: Lights (10 mins)

Focus: Small Sided Games

Instructions: Players move around the grid. When coach shouts colours, players have to respond.

Colours of Lights: Red = Stop; Green = Go; Yellow = Slow (walk); Crash = Fall to ground. Add more colours. Keep making up movements (i.e., toe taps, bells, touch a specific body part to the ball, etc.).

Coaching Points: Close control, stopping with control, creativity, change of speed/pace, and have fun!

Additional Notes: For U4, have them start without a ball. After a while, give them a ball. For U6, have them start with a ball.

Week 12: Treasure Chest (10 mins)

Focus: Small Sided Games

Instructions: Use your whole grid. In the corners, make a box that the players can wait in. Put all of the balls in another box in the middle of your grid. In total, you will have 5 boxes. Split the players up evenly in the corner boxes. The players are the pirates! On the facilitator’s signal, each player (one at a time from the corner boxes) will run toward the jewels (balls in the middle). They will pick up 1 with their hands and bring it back to their pirate ship (their corner box).

Progression: (1) When all the balls are gone, players can steal balls from other player’s pirate ships. Players are only allowed 1 ball at a time and players cannot tackle or protect the ball. Play for 1-2 minutes then change the players. (2) Introduce the ball. Rather than picking the ball up with their hands, the players have to dribble the ball back.

Coaching Points: Let them play, allow for creativity, and have fun!

Additional Notes: This is the last week of this program (Festival Day)!
