Dribbling - Roll

o Take the ball inside the opponents tackling radius

o Drag the ball across the body with sole of the foot

o Take the ball past the defender with inside of the opposite foot

Dribbling - Step Over

o Fake to take the ball across the body using the inside of the foot

o Move the foot around the front of the ball planting on the opposite side of the ball

o Take the ball away using the outside of the same foot in the opposite direction

Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players (6 Attackers, 6 Defenders) set up as shown

3. 1 ball per player

Instructions:

1. Attackers score by not letting the defender hit their ball with their ball

2. Defenders score by hitting the attackers ball or if the attacker dribbles out of the area

3. Defenders have the ball in hand and attackers have to dribble

4. Play for a set time limit then check the scores

5. Rotate players so that they play against different players

Coaching Points:

1. Change of speed

2. Change of direction

3. Experiment with different turns as you attempt to lose your partner

Progression/Regression:

1. P – Both players now have the ball on the ground and the object is to hit the ball with a pass

2. R – Increase the area size so that players have more space to turn into

Main Theme (30 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players set up as shown

3. 1 ball per player

Instructions:

1. One player from each group dribbles out from marker 1 to marker 2, attempting to arrive at the same time

2. When the players get to marker 2 they then turn and explode to marker 3

3. When the players get to marker 3 they then turn and explode back to marker 1

4. As soon as the first player arrives at marker 2, the next player sets off

5. Play for a set time lim it and then change the direction

Coaching Points:

1. Controlled approach

2. Technique (specific one being used)

3. Get low on contact to create a platform to explode and accelerate away

4. Take the ball away with the nearest surface of the nearest foot

Progression/Regression:

1. P – Start with inside cut and progress to outside

2. P – Go both directions to work both feet

3. P – Time the activity to measure how many times each player/team can turn at marker 3

4. R – Add four center markers if players are unable to turn at the middle without running into each other

Conditioned Game (15 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 20 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players (6 Attackers,6 Defenders) set up as show

3. Supply of balls with coach at half way line

Instructions:

1. On coach’s command “go” first players in each line race to tag marker at opposite end of field, and back to tag their starting cone (see A)

2. Coach assesses which player will win the race, and plays ball toward winning players marker (see B)

3. Players then play 1 v 1 in full area

4. Goal is scored by scoring in goal at opposite end of field

5. Players rejoin the back of the line, and the coach restarts the game with the next two players

6. First team to 10 points wins

Coaching Points:

1. Controlled approach

2. Engage defender at speed by attacking front foot

3. Timing of move – just outside tackling radius

4. Body shape – low centre of gravity

5. Change of speed and direction

6. Cut into the space behind defender

Progression/Regression:

1. P – Team that loses race to win possession sends in two players – one defender, and one goalkeeper

2. R – Any move to beat a defender wins a point, even if goal is not scored
