Thirds Warm Up (15 mins)

This is an ideal warm up for dribbling practices which uses elements of the playground game bulldogs.

The red players all have a bib in their shorts and they have to get from 1 zone, through the middle and to the other zone without losing their bib. The blue players can only stay in the middle zone and have to take red player's bibs and put them in the blue square.

As we do not want children to be out, if they lose their bib to a blue player they collect a bib from the red square where we will keep spare bibs.

During this warm up players will practices changes of direction, changes of speed and fakes and moves to get past the blue players.

Change roles after 2 minutes.

Opposed (15 mins)

Passing Opposed Practice

4 soccer balls on cones as the targets one each side of the square, 2 teams each given a number.

Coach starts by calling a number out, one player from each team will contest the ball and will be looking to use the inside of their foot and pass it at one of the balls on the cones.

Because it is a passing game I like to call out more than one number so they are looking to pass to their teammate, we need the players to have good teamwork skills.

Reinforce the coaching points from the previous practice.

Play for 15 Minutes

Doctor, Doctor (40 mins)

Doctor, Doctor

Area split into 2, red team start in one half and the blue team start in the other half. Each team nominates one player to be the doctor for the game and they will stand in their teams red square. Every player from the doctors will have a ball. The aim of the game is to pass the ball and hit the players BELOW THE KNEE on the other team, in particular the doctor. Players can travel anywhere inside the area. The doctor is safe inside their red area. If a player is hit they have to go down and call for the doctor who is the only person that can free them. When the doctor is hit the game is over.

Individual Challenges: 1) Can you try and hit players whilst being in the same area as them (short passing) 2) Can you try and hit players whilst being in a different area to them (long passing) 3) Nominate someone to play without a ball and see if they can receive a pass from someone on their team and hit an opposition player.

Progressions: Secret medic, doctor surgery closed, if the player without a ball hits another player their doctor has to be out of their area for 30 seconds.

Key Outcomes: Different types of passes, ball control, spatial awareness

Play for 40 minutes
