Red Bull Trophies

Organization:

30x15yd area

2 groups of 5 players set up as shown, 1 ball each

5 balls of a differenet color set up on top of a cone each at the center line to make the 'Red Bull Trophies'

Instructions:

- players shoot their ball toward one of the 'Trophies', attempting to knock the colored ball off of the cone; players must shoot from behind the endline

- if a player knocks over one of the 'Trophies', that players runs to wherever the Trophy is and gathers that ball and cone to set the trophy back up on their teams endline

- players may not block a shot from hitting one of their trophies; to ensure this, all players must stay behind the endline unless retrieving a trophy or a ball to shoot

- if a player blocks a shot that was heading toward one of the 'Trophies', the players who shot the ball gets a free-kick from half the distance to the ball

- the game ends when one team has claimed all the 'Trophies', and has them set up on their endline

note: players should look to retrieve a ball shot at them from the opposing team, instead of running to get the ball that they just shot themselves

Coaching Points:

- Choice of technique based upon distance, position of the GK

- Angle of approach – off center

- Head down at the point of contact

- Non-kicking foot placed to side, slightly behind the ball

- Ankle locked, toe down

- Contact ball – will vary depending on target area

- Contact foot – laces (instep)

- Body weight forward, chest and knee over the ball at contact

Progressions: Allow players to take a first touch onto the field and shoot with their second touch, allowing them to get a few yards closer to their target before shooting but also making them strike a moving ball.

Red Bull Trophies (Version 2)

Organization:

30x15yd area

2 groups of 5 players set up as shown, 1 ball each

5 balls of a differenet color set up at the center line to make the 'Red Bull Trophies'

Instructions:

- players shoot their ball toward one of the 'Trophies', attempting to knock the colored ball into the opposing teams half of the field

- Once a 'trophy' has been hit by a players shot, the 'trophy' stays where it is as a target for everyone else to shoot at

- if the 'trophy' is knocked over on of the sidelines, the coach will place the ball back into the middle of the field, making sure the ball is even with where the ball went out of play

- if a ball is knocked over the endline, the ball is removed from the game and the team shooting in that direction gets a point

- the game continues until all the 'trophies' have been knocked over the endline, or until a set amount of time

- if the game ends with 'trophies' still on the field, each team gets a point for every 'trophy' on the opposing teams half of the field when the game ends

- players may not block a shot from hitting one of their trophies; to ensure this, all players must stay behind the endline unless retrieving a ball to shoot

- if a player blocks a shot that was heading toward one of the 'Trophies', the players who shot the ball gets a free-kick from half the distance to the ball
