Juggling Arrival (10 mins)

Organization:

1 ball per player

Instructions:

As players arrive, set simple juggling challenges

Use different parts of the body; thigh, foot

Use this time to get to know your players names and interact with them

Coaching Points:

Remind players which part of the foot is used for juggling

Try to keep the ball below head height

Progressions:

Points awarded for different 'levels' - 1pt, 5 pts, 10pts...

Warm up (10 mins)

Organization:

As Above

Instructions:

Attacker white player Dlube defenders.

Blues try to tag white players triangles are safe zones. If players get tag then switch roles. Blue becomes defender.

No more than two attacker in one free zone (triangles) as soon one goes in the other one must go out.

Coaching Points:

- Connection (eyes) and Communication (Hands, Voice)

- Pick up head

- Be on toes

Progressions:

- When the ball comes into the triangle the first touch must go out of a different side.

- Different methods to receive (inside and Outside)

- Allow the ball to run across your body or through your legs

- Add in a defender who attempts to steal the ball.

Semi_Opposed Technical (15 mins)

Organization:

1. 30x20 area (or bigger if necessary)

2. 12 players

3. Three pinnies

4. Five 2x2x2 triangle (or bigger if necessary)

5. Four players with balls.

Instructions:

1. Same as previous except players must pass a ball into a triangle to "unlock" it before entering.

2. Players receiving the ball must exit the triangle and repeat the process.

3. Taggers look to steal the ball by either intercepting a pass or tackling a dribbling player.

4. Last attacker remaining wins.

Coaching Points:

1. Pick head up to find an available option.

2. Connection/communication - verbal ("ball", "feet") and non-verbal (eye contact, point).

3. Weight and accuracy of pass.

4. Weight and direction of touch - away from pressure, into space.

5. Check shoulder as ball travels (receiving) and while dribbling.

Progressions:

1. Start with more/less taggers or triangles as necessary.

2. Ball cannot leave triangle on same side it entered.

1v1 Conditioned Game (15 mins)

Organization:

20x10 yd areas, with 4 yd endzones in front of each goal

4 groups of 3 set up as shown, center line for each activity has a ball each, extra balls in center

Instructions:

- Player with the ball passes to waiting player to begin activity then defends

- Receiving player takes first touch to control, attacking either direction, and tries to score any time after his first touch

- Defending player can not move until the ball has reached the receiving player

1 pt for scoring from central area, 2 pts for scoring in shaded area in front of goal (encourage players to attack the space with their first touch)

Coaching Points:

All previous points

Observe the position of the defender to determine the space to take the touch into

Disguise the direction of the first touch

Use first touch to set up next action, i.e. a pass into the goal

Progressions:

1 - Defender can start to close down the ball as soon as he releases the pass

2 - Add GK's into rotation in each goal

Regressions:

1 - No goals, dribble into endzone to score
