Receiving & Disguised Passing (20 mins)

Receiving & Disguised Passing

Set-up: All players placed around square (20x20)

Ratio of one ball for every three/four players

Progression:

1) Players with ball dribble and drive into area. They play a firm pass to a free player and take her place on outside. Receiver steps into the pass and takes positive first touch into area. First touch is a big one but still remaining under control.

2) Player dribbles into area, 'disguises' where she will pass, then turns and plays to a different free player. Instead of taking the receiver's place, she moves and takes a free space elsewhere.

3) Build on same progression, but now play a wall pass with a free player, before giving it to another free player. Move to occupy a free space on the outside.

Purpose: Passing and the movement of team mates to receive passes.

Set-up & Instructions: Same area as passing & Receiving area.

A team scores every time they successfully pass to a target player. Players keep the ball and score as many goals as possible.

Progression:

1) A team scores by passing to a target player, then receiving the ball from her (encourages wall-pass).

2) Increase or decrease the number of target players to increase of decrease challenge.

3) U11's: if target plays it back to player who passed successfully = 2 points; if they successfully play it to another teammate (1 point).

Defensive Warm-up (15 mins)

Defensive Warm-Up Progression:

1) Players back pedal while calling out the number the coach puts up while standing behind.Players then jockey doing the same thing.

2) Players partner up and face each other. One is running diagonally forward forcing the other player to shuffle and shift hip position while going backwards. Player running forward isn't going 100%.

3) Player running forward now does the same thing but at some point takes off and tries to beat defender. Defender must perfect the crossover run to keep attacker in front.

4) Now attacker has choice to break off and run through one of the two side gates. Defender must react quickly and follow.
