The aim of this session is to get the players comfortable under pressure in tight areas and be able to play through it and maintain possesion.

Warm up.

Players to commence juggling as they arrive. Standard procedure, keeping it up, then 10 on each foot bouncing, then 3 or 4 kicks, then up over the head, drop to control. Involve the head if time allows.

Get all players in the centre circle. put two balls on the deck, and get one ball in the air.

Get the players to start moving around the centre circle either recieving then playing a pass, or catching and throwing it to a team mate. Ensure they have their heads up and don't collide.

Ensure that the pass technique is correct, and we have off ball movement.

Set the challenge that the two balls on the ground MUST not leave the circle (must hit targets) and the ball in the air MUST not hit the ground.

Passing progression to warm up.

Five players with the ball inside the centre circle.

Play out to a player outside the circle who bounces the ball back to the player, who then changes direction and plays out to another outside player.

After 3 passes, an inside player "calls in" an outside player, who then has three passes inside the circle.

Try to get the outside players to play the ball first time on the bounce, so ball delivery MUST be good.

Progression.

Introduce some passive defending. Take a ball and a player out of the middle, so there is only four players with a ball. Get two outside players to wear a bib and instruct them to block passing lanes, but do not tackle at this stage.

Introduce tackling towards the end if deemed neccesarry.

Rotate defenders regularly.

Players on the outside to dynamic stretch while waiting for a pass.

Game training.

Setup - 25mx25m grid

Rules.

5v5 inside the grid with a bouncer at opposing ends.

Red playing north / south, white playing east /west.

The aim is to play across the grid to the bouncer at each, then play back to the opposite end as may times as you can.

The other team trys to win the ball back as quickly as possible, then play it end to end to their bouncer.

When a player plays out to the bouncer he replaces him, so we have rotation to the centre.

Team task.

Maintain possesion and play the ball end to end to your outside player.

Player tasks / cues

When my team mate has possesion, can I work off ball to create space for him to pass to me.

Also, can I create space so he can pass to a team mate.

If it is not on, don't force it, maintain possesion and try another option.

When passing, can we scan, so we play our pass to our team mates advantage.

When my team mate has possesion, am I create space or actually closing him down with my off ball movement.

At any time how many of my 4 team mates inside the grid can i see.

Am I scanning, so I can make the best decision.

Can you use your first touch to give you more time to make the correct descision.

Progression.

Make area smaller to put players under more pressure - I want to see if they can develop the composure.

Limit touches.

Training Game.

8v8 or 7v7.

Don't worry about offside, area too small to have any effect.

If ball goes out coach to play in. no goal kicks, corners or throw-ins.

Observe, and see ihow the players are playing in such a confined area.

Check area sizes if it is too big / small. MUST have players under pressure in possesion.
