Passing Practice (15 mins)

Football Problem

The team is lacking options to play the ball out from the back to wide areas in the opposition half effectively due to poor positioning

Session Objective

In this session I aim to improve the ability of my players to better position themselves when we are trying to play the ball out from the back

Organisation

Players position themselves into a back four with a holding midfielder in both grids

They perform paterns of play in a clockwise and then and anti clockwise direction following their pass whilst performing dynamic stretches to the next position

Play in an anti clockwise direction after a period of time

Progression

Add a defender in the middle grid who puts pressure on one of the two holding midfielders forcing the player on the ball to make a decision where to play the safest option and not lose possession of the ball

Session Objective

Organisation

Teams play an 8 v 6 with GKs

Play always starts with the Blue GK

The Blue team try to play the ball out from the back effectively ultimately scoring in any of the three goals on the other side of halfway

Goals scored in the small goals wil only count if the shot was taken in the opposition half and a goal scored in the big goal will only count from a first time finish

A goal scored in either of the two small goals is worth 2 and a goal scored in either of the two big goals is worth 1

If the Red team win the ball, they have 10 seconds to try and score a goal

Team Task

The Blue team try to play the ball out from the back effectively ultimately scoring in any of the three goals on the other side of halfway

The Red try to deny the Blue team to cross the halfway line
